The surgery scheduler assumes the primary responsibility for scheduling surgical procedures by obtaining demographic and insurance information, maintaining the scheduling grid, including block changes, and effectively communicating with physicians’ offices, the OR desk, patients, and leadership. Actively participates in the creation of an environment that fosters patient, family, physician and employee satisfaction.
ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Schedules procedures including but not limited to Toledo Hospital, Flower Hospital, Parkway Surgery Center, Wildwood Orthopedic and Spine Hospital, ProMedica Health and Wellness Center. Obtaining complete and accurate information, observing for scheduling conflicts. Coordinates necessary ancillary services/testing ( i.e. Radiology, Breast Care Center, Preadmission Clinic, Interpreter Services, Pre-Op University).
2. Schedules procedures according to time, procedure, anesthesia, equipment, physician preference and availability of OR rooms to ensure optimum utilization.
3. Accurately schedules cases with the attention to spelling, time frame or sites. Relays schedule changes promptly to all necessary personnel. Effectively communicate physician special needs, equipment, supply requests to the appropriate patient care supervisor.
4. Collaborates with other health care professionals in meeting departmental goals. Establishes and maintains mechanisms for communication and constructive problem solving with team members. Utilizes a team approach in decision-making and problem solving. Builds trust and mutual respects. Supports and promotes decentralized model for decision making.
5. Checks for physician credentialing and refers questions regarding procedures appropriately.
6. Professionally answers the telephone, evaluates the call to provide required information or refers calls to appropriate department.
7. Respects patient privacy and confidentiality of staff and hospital information and provides for such at all times following HIPAA guidelines.
8. Strives to make best use of time, seeking out work that needs to be completed, works on ongoing projects, assist other as needed.
9. Performs all other duties as assigned
