Surgery Department RVT
VCA Sacramento Veterinary Referral Center is seeking a skilled RVT to join their surgery team. The Surgery Veterinary Technician supports operations by providing dedicated quality veterinary care and exceptional service to our patients and clients. Responsibilities include providing patient care by determining animal requirements, conducting examinations and diagnostic procedures, assisting during surgery and operations, providing high level anesthetic monitoring, providing nursing care, maintaining medical equipment, triage and discharge of patients, and maintaining patient medical records. --- Essential Position Functions: · Determine animal requirements by conducting examinations, reviewing care plans and records, completing laboratory tests and studies, and diagnostic imaging. · Care for patients by taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering medications, placing catheters and bandaging. · Ability to perform blood draws, place IV catheters and running blood work · Provide excellent care by applying full knowledge of anatomy, pharmacology, specialized equipment usage, and specialized drug administration. · Provide high level of anesthesia monitoring and knowledge, including mechanical ventilation · Assist the veterinary surgeon during surgical procedures, ensuring sterile techniques are maintained · Perform radiographs (Manual and hands free) · Provide detailed discharge instructions post-operatively to clients · Maintain medical records by documenting patients’ conditions, reactions, and changes; update the records in an accurate and timely manner. · Provide post-operative care, including patient recovery monitoring and comfort · Ensure cleanliness and organization of surgery prep · Follow hospital safety and infection control protocols · Communicate effectively with veterinarians, assistants, and clients as needed · Update knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading profession journals · Understand and carry out oral and written directions · Perform other duties as assigned by surgery supervisor and lead Competencies: · Caring and compassionate · Team orientated · Dependable · Flexibility and ability to multi-task · Communication · Organization and attention to detail Qualifications: · High school diploma or GED · Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) · Three years or more of experience as an RVT · Preferably one or more years of experience as a surgery RVT Work Environment: · Fast-paced veterinary hospital or clinic environment · Exposure to animal dander, noise, bodily fluids, and cleaning chemicals · Requires standing for long periods, lifting, and frequent movement Pay Range: $26-$31 **If you are a current associate, you will need to apply through our internal career site.
