Position Summary: The Surgery Assistant enhances patient focused care by assisting the nursing staff with direct and indirect nursing care activities. The Surgery Assistant receives functional direction and guidance from the Registered Nurse and as assigned by the Unit Coordinator or Designee. Qualifications: A. Education: High School graduate or equivalent. B. Training and Experience: 1. Listed with Texas Department of Nurse Aid Registry preferred. 2. Current BLS Certification that follows the American Heart Association guidelines required within 90 days of hire or transfer to department. 3. Complete the following competencies within 3 months of hire or transfer from another department. · Patient transfers · Patient transport · Aseptic technique · Lab specimens / order entry · Unit safety · Body substance isolation · Role in Code Blue · Proper surgical attire · Surgical shave preps · Supply processing · Surgical suite turnover · Assist with case preparation
