Job Summary
The Supervisor of Breast Imaging supervises, plans, organizes, and improves work processes in Breast Imaging. This position handles department orientation, teaches, coaches, supervises staff, and performs imaging exams in Mammography, Bone Density, MRI, Ultrasound, and Nuclear Medicine. The Supervisor also acts as a department liaison when the manager is absent.
Essential Functions of the Role
Oversees imaging services delivery and quality, focusing on turnaround times, exam quality, and patient preparation. Ensures compliance with System and regulatory standards, policies, and procedures. Performs procedures when needed due to workload or complexity.Ensures adequate staffing, supplies, and resources for exams and clinical services. Schedules, monitors, evaluates, and modifies staffing patterns to provide services in assigned areas.Interviews, counsels, and completes performance evaluations. Trains new staff and ensures all registrations and certifications are current. Keeps them on file and up to date. Partners with the management team and staff. Conducts multidisciplinary staff meetings to ensure consistent and timely communication throughout the department.Facilitates goal setting for staff in imaging sections. Monitors goals and achievements. Ensures outcomes are in annual performance evaluations. Encourages participation in Employee Satisfaction and Patient Safety surveys. Provides service feedback results to staff. Initiates a plan for improvement.Partners with Management to develop a department budget. Provides feedback on new and replacement equipment and services needed for growth. Monitors operational budgets and implements corrective action plans for negative productivity and expense variances.Promotes a culture of service excellence in imaging sections. Partners with management to communicate service expectations and survey results. Holds self and staff accountable for service excellence. Facilitates reward and recognition in Breast Imaging sections.Acts as a Breast Imaging liaison to other departments. Develops cooperative relationships with physicians and medical departments to exchange information. Implements solutions to problems. Assists in developing, reviewing, and revising policies, procedures, and goals. Submits and implements policies that help Department and System goals.Assists in ensuring the imaging sections comply with JCAHO, TDH standards, and other accrediting bodies.Identify patient service needs using AIDET when talking with patients. Ensure the correct exam is performed on the correct patient. Establish personal rapport with potential and actual patients and others who know about the service requirements.Coordinates and runs groups on patient safety, customer service, and performance improvement. Focuses on the environment of Care, Employee Engagement, and Physician Engagement. Also covers Quality Improvement and Inter-Departmental Relations. Participates in shared governance, department, hospital, or professional organizations and committees. This includes LEAN initiatives, 5S projects, and inter-departmental committees. It also involves any professional organization participation and QC assurance with radiologists.Key Success Factors
