About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Supervisory Relations Director to lead the Frankfurt Office within the Supervisory Affairs and Financial Regulation team. This senior role will serve as a key point of contact between our organization and the ECB, ensuring transparent, constructive, and proactive communication on supervisory matters. Based in Frankfurt, this role is pivotal in shaping our regulatory engagement strategy and ensuring full alignment with European banking supervisory expectations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain strong, constructive relationships with key stakeholders within the ECB and other relevant European regulatory bodies such as AMLA.Prepare documentation to be submitted to senior management related to SupervisionSREP Exercise: Carry out the internal coordination of the process and prepare detailed reports and recommendations based on the findings of the SREP exercise. Anticipate the SREP outcome to avoid new issues of concern or areas of attention from the Supervisor.Monitor and analyze ECB publications, policy developments, and regulatory trends to anticipate and prepare for potential impacts on the institution. Carry out advocacy and coordination tasks for the standards published by the ECBCollaborate closely with internal stakeholders including HR, Legal, Risk, Compliance,Public Policy and Finance to ensure consistent and aligned regulatory messaging.Lead the preparation of high-quality briefing materials, presentations, and reports for senior executives and supervisory authorities. Represent the organization in relevant industry forums, working groups, banking associations and coordinate the group´s response to consultations on regulatory issues at the European level.

 

Requirements:

Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in regulatory affairs, supervisory relations, compliance, risk management, or a related function within the banking or financial services sector.In-depth knowledge of European banking regulation and supervision framework, including the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM), Capital Requirements Regulation/Directive (CRR/CRD), and other relevant regulations. Demonstrated experience in interacting with European supervisory authorities, particularly the ECB.Strong understanding of the structure and operational framework of the European Central Bank and Joint Supervisory Teams.Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build trust at all levels.Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills and the ability to synthesize complex regulatory information.Proven leadership experience and ability to manage cross-functional teams and projects.Fluent in English and Spanish.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree in Law, Finance, Economics, or a related field.Prior experience in a regulatory or supervisory authority is a plus.Familiarity with Santander´s organization, strategy, internal control and governance framework
