Supervisory Law Enforcement Specialist
Summary Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, CBP Innovation Team (INVNT) within the Office of the Commission, located in Washington, D.C. Responsibilities The CBP Innovation Team (INVNT) mission is to identify, adapt, and deliver innovative and disruptive commercial technology solutions to keep front-line personnel safer and more effective. INVNT aims to identify and harness cutting-edge technologies used in industry, academia, national laboratories, and others, to find ways to adapt them for government use, receive approval from internal governance bodies (such as Privacy and Information Technology), and ultimately procure in a repeatable manner - all while moving at the pace of commercial industry. This position starts at a salary of $167,603.00 (GS-15, Step 1) to $195,200.00 (GS-15, Step 10). Typical duties include: Supporting the Chief AI Officer in the oversight of operational risks related to AI deployments supporting operational and administrative tasks. Working in collaboration with senior leadership to plan, evaluate, integrate and coordinate the identification, development, deployment, and transition of commercial, innovative, and disruptive AI technologies. The incumbent manages and directs the AI operations and governance budget in support of the Chief AI Officer. Overseeing the development and approval of AI communication plans for CBP staff, congressional stakeholders, Government Accountability Office, Office of Management and Budget, senior leadership, media, and other groups as required. Develops and fosters relationships with relevant innovation and AI groups both internal and external to the US Government. Ensuring that the office effectively delivers disruptive and commercial AI technologies to CBP operators, managing the full spectrum of activities including identifying CBP office mission needs for new AI technology, identifying and maturing prospective solutions, prototyping and deploying those capabilities to the field, and transitioning them to existing programs of record. Serving as second line supervisor and directing subordinate supervisors performing law enforcement, administrative, or comparable work. Qualifications Experience: You qualify for the GS-15 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Exercising significant executive responsibility in completion and approval of key and sensitive AI issues. Ensuring the successful pilot, deployment, and integration of AI technologies needed to meet CBP's law enforcement intervention mission. Providing direct insight from previous law-enforcement experience when determining overall strategy, technology applicability, determining use-case prioritization, privacy implications, and legal ramifications of technology use. Additional Information A TOP SECRET/SCI clearance is required for this position. Leadership Training: All newly appointed GS-15s are required to complete mandatory training. The training will be scheduled by the Office of Training and Development within the first 90 days of appointment. The duration of the training will include 5 weeks of in residence training in Harpers Ferry, WV. Note: This training may be waived if previously completed. You must be able to meet job-related medical and/or fitness standards.
