The Supervisor Trucking leads a team of local and/or virtual trucking operations employees responsible for ensuring effectiveness and efficiency throughout the entire trucking process. The Supervisor Trucking is responsible for daily workflow management, coaching, performance management, team development, mentoring and problem resolution. This role participates in building and implementing changes that create efficiencies, improve productivity, deliver quality, and achieve desired cost to serve. The focus of the position is to develop people, monitor performance, and support the day-to-day needs of our partners through superior trucking operations. negotiation with vendors and pricing to customers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties and responsibilities of this position consists of, but are not limited to, the following:
Business and Execution Management/Operations Leadership:
Oversee transportation operations including scheduling and routing for drivers, including negotiation with vendors and pricing to customers.Maintains and grows relationships with existing carrier accounts through regular phone calls, emails and/or face to face visits.Anticipates market and/or regulatory changes and recommends process improvementsMonitor transportation costs and financial performance, implementing cost-saving measures where possible.Optimize daily workflow to achieve quality and efficiency goals. Continuously monitor work and assess transportation operational processes to identify opportunities for improvementAct as an escalation point for exceptions and problem resolutionEnsure compliance with company policies, local regulations and mandates trading rules.Communicate and ensure employee understanding of and compliance to policies, procedures, and SOP’s (internal trucking operational and customer)Ensure team’s understanding of available tools and systems to improve work processes and automation. Work with next-level leaders, operations leaders, and internal stakeholders to ensure effectiveness and/or efficiency of systems. Present suggestions for improvements to drive better performanceBuild and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders. As necessary, review service level metrics and keep internal partners apprised of operations results, initiatives, or changes. Remain current on business needs and changes and external partner expectations. Provides day-to-day problem resolution; identifies issues, determines the best course of action, and implements solutions.Build, maintain and leverage internal relationships with operations peers that reinforces a culture of one team and enables the execution of high-quality service, ethical issue resolution, and process or service improvements. Share observations, feedback, and ideas to operations leadershipPerform trucking operational task work and/or fill in for peer group when neededAdhere to a high level of operational excellence with respect to timeliness and audit KPI'sPrepare operational performance reports to provide insights to employees and next level leadership related to production, expense and quality of service. Secures capacity by balancing a healthy portfolio of committed capacity as well as taking inbound calls based on interest generated from load boards, calling carriers, negotiating rates, and making buying decisionsEnsures capacity meets specific load requirementsInterprets carrier analytics and leverages other tools and resources to guide informed buying decisionsFocused on developing alternative capacity to aligned business such as drop trailer, dedicated capacity and multi-leg movements as well as traditional coverageCollaborates with the service line on longer term engagements such as drop trailer, dedicated capacity, etc. in their aligned business.Leadership and Talent Management:
Outline and communicate employee role accountabilities and expectations and prioritize and delegate work. Monitor results and provide regular coaching to ensure productivity, quality, efficiency, and service objectives are achievedConduct regular check-ins and annual performance management routines. Support the team’s personal and professional development; understand individual needs and create opportunities for experiences that support development needsClearly communicate transportation operations objectives and team/individual performance metrics. Ensure daily/weekly standups are executed. Keep employees well-informed of operational activities, initiatives and results and the impact internal and external partners and C.H. RobinsonWork with next-level manager and work force analysts to define staffing levels and work schedules. Monitor work hours to manage personnel and overtime costsWork closely with next-level leader to drive effective change management and employee adoption of new tools, technology, processes and/or expectationsParticipate in the recruitment, selection, promotion, and alignment of qualified and diverse talentSupport the annual merit and equity programs for assigned team to align compensation with performance resultsEncourage employee feedback through formal and informal channels. Work with next level manager to acknowledge and act on feedback to drive a trusting culture of open two-way communication, inclusivity, and continuous improvementQUALIFICATIONS
Required:
High school diploma or GEDPrevious experiene in Trucking, Operations, Capacity or CommercialFluent in English (written and verbal)Preferred:
