Cleveland-Cliffs Steel has an immediate opening for a Security and Emergency Services Supervisor, at our Indiana Harbor facility, located in East Chicago, Indiana. The Security and Emergency Services Supervisor will manage the department in a responsible manner This position has responsibility for all matters that impact the overall security of the West side of the facility, including but not limited to stationing of personnel, access control, random inspections, emergency response, conducting & managing criminal investigations, interactions with outside resources, traffic enforcement, and duties relating to applicable U.S. Homeland Security & U.S. Maritime Security regulations based upon local, state and federal law and company policy.
Summary of Responsibilities
Ensures the Security and Fire Departments take appropriate and reasonable measures to provide a safe working environment for employees and provide for the protection of company and personal assetsSupervises the Security and Fire Departments union employee’s daily activities including scheduling, addressing employee issues, etc. Ensure the Security and Fire Departments comply with Cleveland-Cliffs Corporate Security Polices & Guidelines in accordance with local, state, and federal regulationsImplement and manage security programs and develops the skills of personnel within the department.This position may be called upon to provide security related support to other Cleveland-Cliffs facilities upon request.The Security Supervisor reports to the Section Manager Security and works closely with all Division and Department Managers throughout the plant as well as Local Police & Fire Departments, the United States Coast Guard, and other government or private agencies as required.Ensures the department remains responsive to the needs of the facility, its personnel, and the surrounding communityProvide the necessary leadership and direction to the departmentLead by example in a manner that reinforces the integrity of the office and sets the standard for ethical & moral values within the departmentOther duties as assignedMinimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related fieldProven manager of people with a mix of interpersonal, leadership, and strategic skills to empower employees and drive team successMinimum of five years’ experience in security, law enforcement, or emergency responseSelf-motivated with minimal direction required for day-to-day operationsProven communication (verbal and written), analytical, organizational, and time management skillsProficiency in Microsoft Office SuitePreferred Qualifications:
An advanced degree in law enforcement administration or a related disciplineMinimum of five years sworn service as a municipal police officer in the State of Indiana; or in a comparable sworn peace officer capacity with a recognized police agencyAdvanced law enforcement leadership training through the completion of a nationally recognized program -- such as the FBI National Academy/ Northwestern University/ or the Southern Police InstituteCertification in industrial security management such as the CPP designation (Certified Protection Professional) through the ASIS International organizationFive or more years of service in a supervisory or administrative capacityFive years or more of industrial security management experience in a large facility with a unionized work environmentApplicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
