No County Clinton Street Address 101 Broad Street City Plattsburgh State NY Zip Code 12901 Duties Description This position is responsible for the effective supervision of Facility Operations Assistants 1 and 2, as well as other grounds, custodial, or maintenance staff assigned to outdoor facility upkeep. This position oversees the maintenance, appearance and condition of all exterior areas, including landscaped grounds, walkways, and parking areas; Assigns work based on priorities set by management, ensures that schedules are met, and that all tasks are completed in accordance with established standards and safety guidelines; Trains staff and maintains detailed records of employee time, work performed, and materials used, and provides regular verbal or written updates to higher-level staff on project status. Other duties may include, but not be limited to, interviewing and selecting staff, establishing training standards, conducting performance evaluations, approving leave requests, maintaining timecards, and making recommendations regarding employee retention or termination. Working both within a crew and alone, this position is responsible for the upkeep of campus grounds including but not limited to, mowing lawns by hand and with power equipment; management of trees, shrubbery, plants, and flowers, including the pulling of weeds; spraying of pesticides under the supervision of a certified applicator; and maintaining outdoor athletic and recreational facilities. In the winter, duties are expected to include shoveling, plowing, and snow blowing of snow which requires the proper and safe use of multiple types of equipment and vehicles, and coordination with the Maintenance and Janitorial departments for snow and ice removal. Other duties may include patching blacktop and operating chainsaws. Ensuring the proper maintenance of grounds equipment is also necessary. Using appropriate PPE and selecting and safely using the appropriate tools and equipment needed to complete the assigned tasks as well as attending job related training will be required. As illustrated, it is important to note that the activities and tasks assigned will vary according to the season and daily weather conditions. Early morning, evening and weekend work is also expected and may be required based on operational needs, resulting in overtime. This position is also subject to recall when deemed necessary by appropriate personnel.
