Typical Tasks In a State correctional school or institution, plans the total education program of the facility; prepares courses of study and training materials designed to aid in the rehabilitation process in the facility; consults with facility officials on problems relating to the coordination of the education program with other facility activities; gives instructions, maintains discipline, and passes upon problems in the supervision of the work of subordinate staff and students; visits classes and confers with staff on the improvement of methods and techniques of instruction; interviews students and counsels them on special educational and vocational problems; where appropriate, institutes and supervises vocational training programs for the development of work habits, skills, and abilities; solicits the cooperation of State and local agencies in the development of academic and vocational training programs and assists in the organization and operation of institution, educational, and trade advisory committees; as a member of the classification committee, interviews students and recommends courses of training and further education; makes follow-up studies of students to evaluate the effectiveness of the academic and vocational training programs; assists in planning and supervising the recreational program of the correctional facility; supervises publications of the facility; orders school supplies; keeps records and makes reports; prepares budget requests for the education program. As a regional administrator of specialized education programs, provides direct services to institution and parole center staff in the planning, development, initiation, implementation and monitoring of education programs; develops and interprets curriculum planning and guidelines pertaining to the submission of local project applications; provides consultative services to institution and parole center staff in the preparation of applications for grants for Federal or State financed ed
