The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Public Safety has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Supervisor.
CORE JOB SUMMARY
The Supervisor, Security provides operational and technical management of patrol operations, and assists in managing equipment, and selecting and training personnel. This position also provides incident response and oversees facility and occupant safety.
Acts as principal assistant to Manager, Security Operations with responsibility for providing direct supervision and training of all security officer functions, and enforcement of all security measures, policies and procedures for a single shift.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Oversees the training of all new hires.Supervises security officers assigned to patrol duties, and performs staff inspections.Administers payroll and scheduling for patrol personnel, including performance appraisal of security officers.Maintains and manages performance accountability.Oversees equipment use and maintenance.Enforces all security measures following policies and procedures.Maintains necessary records and strong interface with all departmental supervisors and employees.Reports all security and safety problems, pertaining to the efficiency of the department, to appropriate senior staff.Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.Department Specific Functions
Responsible for providing daily supervision to Security Officers assigned to a specific shift whose basic function is centered around providing a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and personnel conducting business on the Medical Campus.Interface with all shift officers and other departmental supervisors to assure the highest levels of security standards and team commitments are being maintained.Responsible for performance level of all officers and how they discharge their individual duties.Will ensure that all officers know and carry out all policies and procedures to maintain civil law and order, protection of company property from theft or fire, as well as through malicious or thoughtless acts of individuals.Assists management and other shift commanders in all departmental administrative and supervisory needs.Conducts daily briefing, makes post assignments, and issues equipment, routinely handles employee performance reviews, and will periodically review with each officer all matters related to security, safety, detection and reporting of incidents.Inspects all officers daily to ensure they are in proper uniform, on assigned posts, and have and know how to use all necessary equipment.Takes immediate remedial disciplinary steps when necessary and makes recommendations when more severe disciplinary action is required.Keeps supervisor fully informed as to the performance and conduct of all shift personnel.Incumbent reports to the Manager, Security Operations or, in his absence, to Director of Security. Patrol Investigator, and all other officers assigned to that shift report to incumbent.Responsible for enforcement of all security measures, both internally and externally.Assist in preparation and updating of comprehensive guard orders, procedures, and policies applicable to the security program.Will ensure each fixed post has a current set of policies and procedures and that each officer understands and is carrying out all job duties and responsibilities.Assists supervisor in planning, personnel selection, setting goals, problem solving and decision making.Keeps Manager, Security Operations and Director of Security fully informed of all departmental problems and requirements.Assists all departments in security matters and provides interface to report and correct security problems.Insures the proper operation of all equipment such as security alarms, fire alarms, radio communication systems, CCTV, security telephones, etc.Maintains records and insures the proper preparation and forwarding of all security reports to the security office.Is expected to make strong contribution in all technical, administrative, supervisory, and reporting functions of the department.Maintains good working relationships with management at all levels in all other departments, and/or outside companies doing business on campus.Other duties as assigned.This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary.
CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
