The Opportunity

The position of Supervisor, Production is within Toxicology located at Gretna, LA at Alere Toxicology Services.  In this role, the individual will be responsible for not only supervising the technicians, but also the preparation, extraction and sample vial preparation of samples for GC/MS and/or LC-MS/MS confirmation, and for operating a Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer and LC-MS/MS for confirmatory testing in accordance with the SAMHSA mandatory guidelines and other regulatory organizations for all non-negative test results generated by the laboratory.  This job also requires the individual to perform QC duties.

Night Shift: Tuesday-Saturday (9:00pm-5:30am)

Coordinate duties of personnel, including issuing assignments dailyProvide input and recommendations to improve daily operations within department or in the laboratoryCounsel employees when SOPS or corporate policies are violatedSupervise the preparation and extraction of samples for GC/MS and/or LC-MS/MS confirmationPrepare and extract samples for GC/MS and/or LC-MS/MS confirmation; as neededSupervise the preparation of the GC/MS and/or LC-MS/MS and initial review of dataOperates the GC/MS and/or LC-MS/MS instrumentsPerforms initial review of dataSupervise and prepare validation samples for new controls, calibrators and reagentsAssist with training of new employeesStorage of supplies and disposal of empty boxes; as neededAssures lab department meets safety requirementsAdhere to all security procedures for ensuring confidentiality of donor informationMust comply with company policyIf the employee has worked in a laboratory for >4 years and has a bachelor’s degree in science (>2 years with a master’s degree), the individual may qualify as a supervisor.

 

Required Qualifications:

BS degree in science or equivalent related fieldMinimum of 2 years expereince

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced ability to understand analytical techniques and proceduresAdvanced ability to understand laboratory instrumentationAbility to understand certification requirements for SAMHSA, CAP-FUDT, and other regulatory bodiesAdvanced ability to understand the function of a Laboratory Information System (LIS) and other laboratory computer systems

The base pay for this position is $61,300.00 – $122,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
