Description of Job
OIT ONLY RECRUITMENT: This recruitment is open only to current employees of the Office of Information Technology for the State of Colorado. Contractors currently engaged at OIT do not qualify as employees.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please review your application to ensure completion. For the most equitable applicant experience, OIT’s hiring team considers only the contents of your application to review your qualifications. Please do not include any attachments (such as resume or cover letter) with your application as these items are not used by OIT’s hiring team.
The Governor’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) is seeking a dynamic Communications Supervisor to lead the way in crafting and delivering impactful internal employee communication and key external messaging. In this role, you will be the bridge between leadership, employees, and other critical stakeholders—making sure every message is clear, engaging, and aligns with OIT’s purpose, goals, and values. You will create compelling content, optimizing distribution strategies, and ensuring our channels—from the intranet to events—are fresh, accessible, and effective. Your communications leadership will promote transparency, collaboration, and a positive culture across OIT.
This is a hands-on leadership role—you’ll both set the strategy and roll up your sleeves to execute communication plans while mentoring and inspiring your team to deliver vital information to OIT employees, state agency customers, the Colorado General Assembly, and Coloradans. As a first-line leader, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of your assigned communications unit and the ongoing coaching of team members.
Some of the important duties you will perform:
+ Lead Communication Strategy: Develop and execute comprehensive, integrated plans to keep employees informed, engaged, and connected to OIT’s purpose while ensuring alignment with agency customer and public-facing communication.
+ Create Compelling Content: Write, edit, design, and review communication materials—reports, announcements, presentations, and more—ensuring compliance with digital accessibility regulations and requirements.
+ Manage Channels: Manage messaging across multiple platforms—intranet, newsletters, emails, events—and explore other innovative, engaging delivery methods.
+ Engage Stakeholders: Partner with Human Resources, Finance, Operations, and other teams to align messaging and support key initiatives, promoting increased employee engagement and customer satisfaction.
+ Guide Crisis Communication: Lead internal communication during challenging situations and support the Chief Communications Officer and Public Information Officer on external messaging strategies.
+ Plan Events: Coordinate key employee and leadership meetings to strengthen engagement, culture, and inclusion.
+ Measure Impact: Track engagement, analyze results, and refine strategies to maximize the reach and effectiveness of OIT communication.
+ Lead & Inspire: Bring a human-centered approach to managing your team—building psychological safety by encouraging and supporting employees in taking risks, leading them through teachable moments, and encouraging everyone's participation.

+ Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis, but cannot completely substitute for these qualifications.
+ Training or Certification related to the work assigned to the position will be assigned credit towards substitution for experience and/or education, but cannot completely substitute for these qualifications.
+ If the minimum qualifications include a degree requirement, additional appropriate paid or unpaid experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
