UPMC McKeesport’s Addiction Medicine Unit is searching for a Supervisor of Clinical Care and Discharge Planning! 

Join our dedicated team on UPMC McKeesport’s Addiction Medicine Unit, where we provide compassionate care to individuals on their recovery journey.

We are seeking an experienced Supervisor to oversee the programmatic and regulatory aspects of our Addiction Medicine Unit. This role ensures high standards of care and smooth patient transitions from detoxification to recovery. We are a 27-bed unit who caters to patients experiencing withdrawal from alcohol, opiates, and benzodiazepines. We accommodate patients for hospital-based rehab to support those newly in recovery for other substances such as cocaine, methamphetamines, and barbiturates. 

This role is eligible for a generous sign-on bonus! $10,000 will be paid to you in a one-lump sum within your first 90 days when you make a 2-year commitment to UPMC.

Key Responsibilities:

Ensure licensing for McKeesport’s hospital-based Withdrawal Management and Rehab program Lead and support the Clinical Care Coordination team through direct case management work and aftercare planning Oversee system-wide consults and running group programming Collaborate with medical staff and external agencies Work alongside the Unit Director, RN Clinician and Addiction Medicine Nurse Liaison to ensure patients are enjoying robust daily programming to ensure long-term patient sobriety Manage the social services team with up to 10 direct reports Travel and educate staff at local/regional drug and alcohol facilities about our program and referral system

Qualifications and Preferences for this role: 

Bachelor’s degree in nursing or Master’s Degree in Social Work or another Health and Human Services field At least 3 years of experience in discharge planning, care coordination or similar experience managing department operations Experience with inpatient drug and alcohol programming, specifically with PA WITS Knowledge of county and state drug and alcohol departments. If an RN, completion of CARN certification preferred.  Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Work Schedule:

Daylight/evening shifts with an occasional weekend day Occasional call time to assist with off-hour transfers and admissions Flexible hours, primarily Monday-Friday with a majority of the needs between 7 AM – 7 PM.

Responsibilities:

Collaborates with the Director to ensure effective processes and systems are established and maintained to meet departmental goals. Oversees daily operations of the Discharge Planning staff under the direction of the Director. Ensures productivity standards are met. Utilizes expert leadership and critical thinking skills to efficiently coordinate and direct discharge planning expectations among all health care providers while maximizing use of resources. Takes a leadership role in the mentoring and monitoring of department staff. Participates in leadership development. Hires and terminates staff as necessary. Establishes and monitors performance and provides feedback and guidance to staff. Conducts annual performance evaluations. Functions as a resource person for the care management and denial management processes. Develops and implements processes for timely and accurate documentation of appropriate data relating to concurrent denials. Assures regulatory compliance in determining denial of service and/or providing notices of non-coverage. Ensure training programs address identified needs of department staff. Maintains a tracking system for overseeing and monitoring progress toward established goals and objectives of the discharge planning program. Collaborates with other UPMC departments to establish mechanisms to address issues related to discharge planning, tracks avoidable day/delay documentation, and reports trends/barriers to Director. Participates in the development of the Clinical Care Coordination and Discharge Planning department annual budget and plans for department needs under the direction of and in collaboration with the Director. Monitors actual expenses against budget and reports variances.
