VACANCY ADVERTISEMENT:  SUPERINTENDENT – LOAD AND HAUL

Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be responsible for leading open-pit mining operations to deliver safe, efficient, and cost-effective load and haul performance in alignment with Lumwana’s business plan and Barrick’s operational excellence framework.

 

Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

Drive visible safety leadership and ensure compliance with Barrick’s Zero Harm and Critical Risk Management programs.

Lead daily open-pit load and haul operations to meet or exceed production, cost, and efficiency targets.

Oversee short-term production planning, fleet allocation, and dispatch performance to achieve optimal equipment utilization and blending targets.

Collaborate with Technical Services, Geology, and Maintenance to align production with plan, minimize rehandle, and maintain ore quality.

Implement and monitor operational KPIs (tonnes mined, equipment utilization, cost per tonne, productivity) using digital tools and dashboards.

Ensure all activities comply with regulatory, environmental, and community engagement requirements.

Champion continuous improvement initiatives focused on asset performance, workforce productivity, and cost optimization. 

Develop and maintain high-performing, diverse teams through structured coaching, training, and succession planning. 

Manage section budgets and expenditure within approved limits, ensuring strong cost discipline and accurate reporting.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

Minimum bachelor’s degree  in mining engineering or related discipline.

Minimum 10 years’ experience in large-scale open-pit mining operations, with at least 5 years in a senior supervisory or superintendent role.Proven leadership of large mining fleets and multi-pit operations.Strong understanding of load and haul optimization, mine planning integration, and dispatch systems.Demonstrated experience managing large, multicultural workforces and contractor interfaces.Sound understanding of Zambian mining legislation and safety regulations.Proficiency in fleet management and reporting systems.Strong computer literacy (MS Office, SAP, or equivalent systems).Valid Zambian driver’s license or ability to obtain one. Must be a member of Engineering institution of Zambia (EIZ)
