Job Title: Construction SuperintendentJob Description

Join our dynamic traveling department to oversee the building of student housing and a dining hall. This role demands a proactive presence on the project site to set expectations, responsibilities, and maintain commitments while ensuring safety and quality standards.

ResponsibilitiesRepresent the project site daily by setting expectations, responsibilities, and maintaining commitments.Review conceptual, schematic, and design development documents for constructability, phasing options, temporary protection requirements, site logistics, and field construction issues.Recommend construction options and efficiencies based on reviews.Establish project site expectations for safety, quality, unforeseen conditions, housekeeping, and general conduct.Create a project-specific safety program to highlight key or unique hazards introduced by site conditions or work methods.Develop and communicate leadership approaches for addressing hazards on the project.Provide a safety orientation for every individual entering the site, emphasizing the importance of safety over speed.Discuss relevant safety topics with trade contractors weekly or more frequently if needed.Promptly report and investigate accidents and safety-related incidents, disciplining repeat or extreme violations.Plan and coordinate site logistics, including traffic patterns, equipment locations, and storage and staging.Partner with Project Manager, client, and trade contractors to develop a work plan for the project.Coordinate project team's preparation for upcoming work through progress meetings.Plan and coordinate timely initiation, momentum, and completion of all trade contract work on the project site according to the project schedule.Oversee technical interpretation of construction documents and drawings, recommend construction methods and equipment as required.Ensure consistency with contractual specifications and requirements.Discuss quality expectations with trade foremen prior to installation.Arrange pre-installation coordination meetings for all work areas involving overlapping work by multiple trade contractors.Arrange and coordinate timely permitting and required inspections to start and complete work.Prioritize and review critical submittals for dimensional control and constructability.Maintain rolling punch list defining final quality expectations and ensure completion.Verify and authorize trade contractor timesheets for extra work performed on a time and material basis.Authorize purchase requisitions for material, equipment, and labor as agreed with Project Manager prior to project startup or in emergencies.Complete thorough and accurate daily reports of progress and concerns, including daily weather and safety inspections, violations, and accidents.Continuously assess and analyze the project's actual status against goals, develop contingency plans, and revise construction strategy as required.Focus all parties on developing mutually acceptable solutions aligned with contractual agreements when conflicts and disputes arise.Compile fair and honest reports of the project team's experience with each trade contractor using the trade contractor evaluation survey.Complete assigned and required training for this role.
Essential SkillsFive years of commercial construction experience in a leadership role as a Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.OSHA 30 certification.Proficiency in Procore.Ability to manage and plan work activities while recognizing safety concerns.Demonstrate interest and familiarity with site requirements, tools, methods, and materials across trade divisions.Clear and quick writing and communication skills for diverse audiences.Good problem-solving skills and understanding of risk management.Understanding of job cost accounting practices and ability to analyze reports.Advanced understanding of construction scheduling and cost control.Ability to manage time, plan, schedule, organize, and prioritize responsibilities to meet deadlines consistently.Ability to create and build strong, positive relationships with owners, architects, and contractors.
Additional Skills & QualificationsBasic computer skills and understanding of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Microsoft Word, Procore, BIM, and Microsoft Project.Passion for team-based planning and problem-solving.Commitment to building strong partnerships to support project goals.Ability to lead, work well with others, and build relationships with the project team and subcontractors.
Work Environment

The position is open to local or traveling candidates. Each Superintendent will oversee $1 million worth of work per month. The work schedule is primarily day shift with occasional Saturdays, typically from 7 AM to 4 PM. The role involves overseeing 35 contractors, with the project total value being $500 million.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $125000.00/hr.
