Job Summary:\rThe Laboratory Shift supervisor is primarily responsible for the daily laboratory operation and oversight fo the specific shift that he or she is assigned. Their technical expertise will serve as a resource to the technologists/technicians and assistants within the department as well as the Physicians, Nurses, and Patients who are our customers. Secondary responsibilities include all Human Resource functions including scheduling, payroll, and performance evaluations, etcif applicable.\rThe Shift Supervisor Position reports directly to the Lab Manager.\rKey responsibilities of the role include: Managing lab pending and uncollected lists, workload, instrument downtimes, and personnel on shift.\rImpact of this role in the organization is the smooth and efficient daily operations of their shift in the laboratory.\rCore Responsibilities and Essential Functions:\r* Technical Oversight\rResponsible for all aspects of the laboratory testing performed on their assigned shift, including workflow and quality of the results generated. Assists other technologists, technicians, and support staff with the interpretation of the test requests, results and overall accuracy.\rCan analyze statistical data such as variance, mean, coefficient of variation, and interpret graphs and charts to ensure accuracy of test data. Coordinates all aspects of quality control and maintains documentation daily.\rTroubleshoots procedural breakdowns, and equipment malfunctions. May stop production until remedial action is successful in restoring production. May initiate equipment repair and validate functionality. May provide data for restoration of equipment and procedures to all accrediting agencies. Demonstrates technical competence and can perform analysis in area of expertise. Works the bench as assigned.\rSupervision\rSupervises Technologists, Technicians, and Support Specialists assigned on their shift. Schedules personnel in a fair and equitable manner, while minimizing the use of overtime. Responsible for employee training, coaching, and counseling as required. Performs annual performance evaluations and competency assessments. Maintains employee payroll in a timely manner. Drives employee engagement through effective action planning.\rPerformance Improvement and Quality Management\rIncorporates the philosophy of quality and performance improvement into daily routines. Actively initiates improvements for key quality criteria such as turn around time, accuracy, and sensitivity of test methods. Assists other employees in improving skills and knowledge.\rEducates peers and subordinates on customer service performance improvement initiatives.\rEncourages employee involvement and participation. Others constructive feedback.\rCustomer Service and Team Performance\rMaintains a positive impression. Greets everyone and treats customer as guests.\rCommunicates effectively and proactively manages service recovery situations.\rServes others from a team-centered approach.\rSelf manages time ad resources effectively.\rMaintains confidentiality and follows all Wellstar policies and procedures.\rGeneral\rMonitors attendance and punctuality in accordance with system policy.\rAdheres to dress code and maintains a neat appearance.\rWears and displays ID badge while on duty.\rWillingly performs other duties as assigned.\rFollows employee conduct expectations as outlines in the Employee Handbook.\rPerforms other duties as assigned\rComplies with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.\rRequired Minimum Education:\rBaccalaureate degree in Medical Technology or related subject Required\rRequired Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):\rAll certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.Med Tech ASCP Certification or Cytotechnologist - ASCP or Histotechnician or Amer Medical Tech or Med Technologist (AMT) or Med Lab Scientist (ASCP)\rAdditional License(s) and Certification(s):\rHEW Upon Hire Required and\rAMT Upon Hire Required and\rMLS (MT) certification eligible candidates must pass certification within 1-1/2 Yrs Required\rRequired Minimum Experience:\rMinimum 3 years pertinent experience in laboratory medicine with a Bachelors degree Required or\rMinimum 3 years experience of pertinent experience in laboratory medicine with a Masters degree in laboratory medicine.
