**Pay:** $22.00 - 25.00 per hour
**Duration:** 4-month summer placement (May–August)
**Job Description**
**WHAT'S THE JOB?**
As a Summer Law Student, you will report directly to the Executive Vice President Legal, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. You will provide timely, high quality and practical legal support as part of a small and dynamic legal team out of our head office to our national and regional business teams in Canada and the U.S. Acting as a trusted business partner, you will gain exposure to all facets of being an in-house lawyer for a fast growing publicly listed company
Key Responsibilities:
+ Structuring, reviewing, drafting negotiating, and enforcing commercial agreements.
+ Anticipating and assessing potential benefits and risks associated with business opportunities and operations.
+ Counseling business divisions on subject matters including, but not limited to corporate commercial matters, litigation, contract laws, regulatory controls, etc.
+ Providing support in other areas of legal department responsibility, including supply chain, insurance and risk management.
+ Conduct research on contract law, employment law, privacy, procurement, and regulatory compliance matters.
+ Prepare concise research summaries and memos for review by counsel.
+ Support due-diligence activities.
+ Help track and update corporate records, templates, and legal registers.
+ Draft summaries or preliminary issue outlines for review by Legal team members.
**Qualifications**
**WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?**
+ Current enrollment in a JD program (1L or 2L).
+ Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills, with the ability to communicate effectively to different stakeholders.
+ Detail oriented, organized, and comfortable providing practical advice.
+ Interest in experiencing an in-house legal environment focused on corporate, securities and commercial law.
+ Ability to work independently while also collaborating with cross functional teams.
