Internship Program Overview:
As a participant in the Belk Summer Internship Program, you will gain real word experience and exposure to various functional areas of merchandising. You will focus on analyzing business trends while assisting and shadowing a Information Technology associates. IT interns will learn key areas of the role including but not limited to cybersecurity, engineering principles, data management, e-commerce, and cross-functional collaboaration with line of business teams. The Internship Program provides exposure to senior leaders, professional development workshops, structured assignments and social events over the 10 weeks in the summer. Interns will leave understanding the complexity of department stores and the excitement of the retail and ecommerce industry. Interns will be required to relocate to Charlotte, NC for the summer, with work-from-home flexibility.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
Participate in special projects tailored to your department placement (e.g., Data Engineering, Information Security, Software Engineering, etc.)
Assist with troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues.
Support system upgrades, implementations, and testing activities.
Contribute to cybersecurity initiatives, including monitoring, reporting, and awareness.
Analyze and document processes, workflows, and technical requirements.
Assist with data analysis, reporting, and database management tasks.
Collaborate with IT team members to develop and improve digital tools and solutions.
Provide support to end-users by resolving tickets or creating help documentation.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Rising college senior planning to graduate in December 2026 or Spring 2027 majoring in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Data Analytics, or related field.
Must be authorized to work in the United States and not require work authorization sponsorship by Belk for this position now or in the future
Proven strong academic performer (GPA of 3.2 or higher preferred)
Leadership skills that include professional business ethics, confidence and self-motivation
Strong business background with ability to analyze data, draw conclusions, and take action
Previous retail experience
Strong interest in learning about technology’s role in business operations.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite; exposure to databases, programming, information secruity or networking is a plus.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
