Job Title: Sr. SUE Project Manager
Job Description
We are seeking a Sr. SUE Project Manager with a strong background in Level B SUE mark outs, utility ticket generation, and project management. This individual will spearhead our new service offering, establish QA/QC protocols, and serve as a technical lead and client liaison across multiple projects. The ideal candidate brings over 20 years of progressive field and office experience with utility locating and coordination.
Responsibilities
+ Oversee and manage all aspects of SUE projects, from initial planning and design to execution, data analysis, and project delivery.
+ Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required standards.
+ Coordinate and initiate all SUE Level B utility mark out operations for both public and private infrastructure projects.
+ Review, generate, and manage utility one-call tickets and 811 utility locates, ensuring compliance with NC811 protocols.
+ Interpret and integrate utility records, as-builts, and GIS data into utility composite plans.
+ Coordinate with project managers, surveyors, and engineers to integrate subsurface data into design and construction documents.
+ Supervise and self-perform field investigations using GPR and electromagnetic locator tools.
+ Develop and implement QA/QC protocols for utility mark out deliverables.
+ Maintain up-to-date field records, daily reports, and communication logs.
+ Provide technical leadership and mentoring for junior technicians as the team grows.
+ Collaborate with engineering/surveying PMs, clients, utility owners, DOT officials, and municipal agencies to secure clearances and maintain schedule compliance.
+ Prepare project proposals, scope documents, and cost estimates for SUE services.
+ Ensure compliance with ASCE 38-22 standard and North Carolina utility locating regulations.
Essential Skills
+ Minimum 20 years of hands-on experience with SUE Level B operations in transportation, commercial, institutional, or utility infrastructure sectors.
+ Demonstrated experience managing multiple mark out projects and coordinating utility records.
+ Proficient in ticket management platforms (NC811, Utilisphere, IrthNet, etc.).
+ Strong knowledge of ASCE 38-02/38-22 standards and risk management principles in utility locating.
+ Familiarity with CAD platforms (AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred) for interpreting and drafting utility features.
+ Valid driver’s license and ability to perform field work in various conditions.
+ Self-motivated and entrepreneurial mindset; capable of growing a service line from the ground up.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Proficiency in land surveying, project management, construction stakeout, and surveying.
+ Professional land surveyor (PLS) certification.
+ Knowledge of boundary surveys, civil engineering, topographic surveys, and land development.
+ Geomatics degree, land surveying degree, SIT, FS Exam, proficiency in AutoCAD, Carlson, and survey analysis.
Work Environment
This position offers a flexible work environment with the option to work from home four days a week. The role involves a combination of home, office, and fieldwork, meeting clients on-site as needed.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $120000.00/hr.
