**Your role and responsibilities**
Responsible for ensuring secure, optimized, and highly available web environments for customers. This role combines web development, systems administration, and security oversight to maintain performance, reliability, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
* Ensure websites are accessible, properly linked, and secured for intended audiences.
* Administer backend services (e.g., WebDAV, SVN, customer accounts) and manage Akamai properties.
* Perform code reviews, manage version control, and oversee change management for production releases.
* Maintain and optimize web/database servers, troubleshoot performance issues, and collaborate with developers on secure hosting configurations.
* Respond to security incidents, conduct vulnerability scans, and implement remediation measures.
* Provide on-call support and occasional travel for customer site visits.
* Must hold and maintain a Secret security clearance
**Required technical and professional expertise**
* PHP Expertise: Strong experience with PHP, frameworks (Laravel, Lumen), CMS (Expression Engine, Drupal), and debugging PHP/JavaScript.
* Web Development: Skilled in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, cross-browser compatibility, and multi-platform desktop/mobile development.
* Systems & Databases: Proficient with Linux, MySQL, and setting up/customizing local development environments.
* Automation & Version Control: Experience with scripting (BASH, PHP, Ruby, Python) and version control tools (SVN, Git).
* Integration & Communication: Knowledge of API security/integration (Facebook, Twitter), requirement gathering, and strong team communication skills.
* Must live within 50 miles of Radford, VA as this job requires in person work at least 3 days per week
* Must hold and maintain a Secret security clearance
**Preferred technical and professional experience**
* Experience with security vulnerability scanning and penetration testing of websites manually and using automated tools (e.g., Fortify, Burp Suite, Skipfish).
* Experience working in a government environment.
* Experience with W3C Web Standards and knowledge of 508c compliance.
* Experience working with cloud environments (AWS, Azure).
