Subject Matter Expert – Whole Building Airtightness Pressure Testing – Boston, MA

Intertek’s Building Science Solutions (BSS) group is primarily focused on Acoustical Testing, Consulting and Noise Assessments, Building Enclosure Consulting, Commissioning, and Field Performance Testing for New Construction and Retrofit Projects; Forensic Services and Investigations; Insurance Services; Due Diligence Services, Property Resilience Assessments; Sustainability Consulting and Energy Services; and Building Enclosure Assurance, Consulting, and Testing Services.
What are we looking for?
As the WBAT SME, the primary responsibility is to ensure Intertek’s BSS is a visible leader in our Air Barrier and Whole Building Airtightness Testing services. This will include developing and managing staff training and mentoring programs (for all levels), technical standardization, industry association involvement and leadership, preparing technical publications, attending industry events, etc. This role will also work with our senior level consultants in the BECx and BE consulting service lines for discipline development. This position will travel 25-50% of the time.

What you’ll do:
Collaborate with the existing WBAT SME’s to build, expand, and manage a national level training program for the Building Science Solutions group, primarily focused on Air Barrier and Whole Building Airtightness Testing services. Ensure our staff is properly trained and supported in technical matters and processes. Overall training should encompass training entry-level, mid-level, and highly experienced consultants in Air Barrier and Whole Building Airtightness Testing services including technical information and consulting processes, as well as managerial and leadership topicsPerform virtual and regional in-person training sessions for staff. Program will include group-wide knowledge sharing sessions, and smaller group-focused seminarsLead and perform WBAT projects on medium to large sized projectsLead and collaborate with BSS Technical Director and Senior Consultants to develop training sessions, SOPs, as well as standardization for work product and processesCollaborate with Building Science Solutions operating unit managers to determine site-specific training needsLead the development and yearly updates of internal technical resources including libraries, internal and external resourcesIdentify internal skills gaps within the Building Science Solutions practice and opportunities for innovation within the industryCollaborate with staff on project-specific technical itemsProvide building enclosure consulting, commissioning, and design and construction administrative services for new building projectsProvide building enclosure investigations and assessments for existing builds and provide remedial repair designs and construction administrative services when requestedPrepare proposals for potential new workAssisting in meeting local profit center and BSS group financial goalsPrepare professionally written deliverables, including proposals, technical report, design reviews, etcAssist with developing business and clients in the local area and assisting with national, larger pursuits outside of the local areaThis position outline is a general guideline and does not represent all encompassing details. Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:
10+ years’ experience primarily focused on Air Barrier & Whole Building Airtightness Testing (Blower Door Testing) Project management experience for a full range of project typesExtensive technical knowledge of all aspects of the Air Barrier and Whole Building Airtightness Testing servicesExperience with preparing scope and fee proposals for potential projectsStrong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to meet changing and strict deadlinesComplete understanding of Air Barrier and Whole Building Airtightness Testing standards including but not limited to ASTM E1186, ASTM E1827, ASTM E779, ASTM E3158, ISO 6781, ASTM E2178, ASTM E2357, ASTM 1060, ABAA master guide specifications, IECC, ASHRAE 90.1, USACE Air Leakage Test Protocol for Building Envelopes v3, ISO 9972, etcCertified Level II Thermographer, minimumExperience performing guarded testingExperience performing blower door-assisted theatrical fog air leakage diagnosticsExperience performing intra-zonal differential pressure air leakage diagnostics Familiarity with LEED, Well Building, PHIUS, MA Stretch Code, etc. programsSound computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, FanTestic, and TECLOG4)Must be willing to travel 25-50% of the time, as business needs dictateValid Driver's License and reliable driving recordPreferred Requirements & Qualifications:
