EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: One year of experience working with children in an organized setting. BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor or counselor, perform student support activities to enhance and reinforce behavioral and social skills to students; report sensitive issues; assist students with refusal skills related to alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs ; assist students with issues related to bullying, low self-esteem, anger management, decision making, and other matters which prevent full educational potential; provide a variety of clerical and supportive tasks for staff and students. KNOWLEDGE OF: Child development principles and practices. Basic methods used in motivating, assisting and building resilience in students. Student behavior and characteristics. Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities. Oral and written communication skills, including correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy. Research-based class lessons. Record-keeping and filing techniques. Basic computer skills.

The current openings are for 3 hours per day/15 hours per week, 9.5 months worked. These positions provide support at elementary schools. This is not a benefited position. Candidates who possess a valid and current CA teaching credential, OR who possess a Bachelor's Degree AND have passed the CBEST will be placed at Step 6 of the salary range designated for this classification. Candidates who pass all of the examination processes are ranked on an eligibility list according to their score(s). Selection for the position will be made from among the top three (3) ranks of candidates. The eligibility list will be active for six (6) months. **We will not accept applications after the deadline.**
