We are seeking a Structural High Voltage Transmission Lines Engineer to join our team in Romania.
The **T&D Structural Engineer (Overhead Lines)** is responsible for leading the design, analysis, and implementation of structural systems supporting high-voltage overhead transmission lines, including towers, poles, and foundations. This role involves delivering technically sound and cost-effective designs for both greenfield and brownfield transmission projects across voltages ranging from 69kV to 765kV.
The position is ideal for a highly skilled engineer with extensive experience in PLS-CADD, PLS-TOWER, and transmission line structural engineering, who can also provide mentorship and direction to junior staff, collaborate cross-functionally, and lead projects from conceptual planning through construction support.
**Job Description**
**Here is what you will do:**
**Design, Analysis, and Development:**
+ Lead the structural design and analysis of overhead transmission line systems, including lattice towers, steel poles, wood poles, and associated hardware.
+ Perform structure loading, line profiling, spotting, and clearance studies using PLS-CADD, PLS-TOWER, and PLS-POLE.
+ Develop detailed design drawings, specifications, and bill of materials for tower and pole structures, foundation designs, guying, and conductor/cable supports.
+ Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, AISC, and applicable utility/client standards.
+ Coordinate with electrical, civil, geotechnical, and environmental teams to align line routing and structure placement with project constraints.
+ Integrate wind, ice, and seismic loading per applicable codes and standards.
2. **Leadership & Project Management:**
+ Provide technical leadership and mentorship to structural engineers and drafters throughout the design lifecycle.
+ Support proposal development, cost estimation, and scope definition for transmission line projects.
+ Participate in or lead design reviews, internal QA/QC, and interface meetings. Track progress against project schedules and budgets
3. **Field Support & Construction Coordination:**
+ Provide engineering support during construction, inspection, and post-construction phases of transmission line installations.
+ Assist in the preparation and review of construction packages, including foundation layouts and tower/pole assembly instructions, resolve structural issues during execution.
4. **Documentation & Quality Assurance:**
+ Prepare and review structural analysis reports, material take-offs, construction drawings, compliance across deliverables and calculation packages.
+ Maintain design records and ensure compliance with internal QA/QC protocols.
5. **Innovation & Standards Development:**
+ Drive standardization and optimization of structure libraries, design templates, and line design workflows.
**Qualifications**
**Here’s what we’re looking for:**
+ **Education** : Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline).
+ **Experience** : Minimum 6 years of experience in transmission line structural design
+ Proficiency in PLS-CADD, PLS-TOWER, and PLS-POLE for transmission line engineering.
+ Advanced knowledge of overhead line design, including structural behavior under loading, sag-tension, galloping, and cascading.
+ Familiarity with foundation design, including direct embed, drilled pier, and pad & pier systems.
+ Experience with European and international applicable standards.
+ Understanding of electrical clearance requirements, conductor selection, and routing constraints.
+ **Leadership and Soft Skills:**
+ Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and manage engineering deliverables across multiple projects.
+ Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
+ **Nice to Have:**
+ Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility in relevant jurisdiction.
+ Experience with EMF analysis, aerial surveys, or LiDAR-based routing.
+ Knowledge of corrosion protection, structure retrofitting, or asset condition assessment techniques.
+ Familiarity with client standards from major utilities or regional transmission organizations.
+ Exposure to design for resiliency, including wildfire, extreme weather, and storm hardening considerations.
