Shifts: 2nd or 3rd Shift

Bonus: $2,000 Sign-On & Retention Bonus

Caterpillar is hiring experienced Structural Fitters with Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) expertise to join our manufacturing team in South Milwaukee, WI.

At our South Milwaukee facility, you’ll be part of a team that builds some of the largest and most powerful mining machines in the world. This facility specializes in the production of Cat® Electric Rope Shovels (ERS) used in mining operations around the world.

Key Responsibilities

Weld plain and alloy structural steel in all positions using FCAWPerform multi-pass welds (10+) on heavy plate (2+ inches)Use jib, gantry, or overhead cranes to position componentsGrind and dress fabricated weldmentsOperate forklifts, scissor lifts, and aerial liftsRead and interpret complex blueprintsFit and assemble large structural weldments using jacks, clamps, jigs, and layout toolsClamp, tack weld, burn, air arc, and label components per blueprint specifications

Required Qualifications

5+ years of FCAW welding experience on heavy plate3+ years of structural fitting experienceExperience with .035 hard wire on thinner materials (¼” or less)3+ years of blueprint reading and interpretationFamiliarity with back gouging, carbon arcing, or air arcingAbility to weld in overhead and vertical up positionsMust pass: 3 FCAW weld qualification tests using 3/32 wireMust pass: 2 structural fitter qualification tests using 3/32 wire

Preferred Qualifications

Strong safety mindsetAbility to work independently and in a teamProficiency with layout tools: tape measure, level, surface gauges, tram points, calipers, combination sets, wedges, blocksWillingness to work overtime to meet production demands

Summary Pay Range:

$27.40 - $36.38
