Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Structural Engineer for employment in the Markham-Ontario office. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional engineer to play a key role in the design and construction of a wide variety of building structures and contribute to a dynamic team of engineers, architects and technicians with a focus on delivering high quality, innovative building design solutions. In this position, you will be an important addition to the Structural Department of the Buildings and Places group, consisting of A/S/M/E/C disciplines all under one roof. Participate in a wide variety of projects including subway stations and other transit facilities, maintenance facilities, office buildings, parking structures, public facilities, municipal and industrial facilities.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

Fully competent engineer capable of using independent judgement to evaluate, analyze and design structures in reinforced concrete, structural steel and other building materials, with thorough working knowledge of OBC, NBCC and related Canadian codes/standards.  Interpret project requirements, develop proposed solutions, perform computer modelling, structural analysis and design calculations, comply with applicable codes and standards, prepare construction drawings and specifications, conduct field investigations, prepare reports, liaise with clients, supervise junior engineers and CAD technicians, perform shop drawing review, and general review of construction.Identify creative solutions to address challenging technical issues such as evaluating alternative structural systems, strengthening existing buildings to carry additional loads and incorporating sustainable design initiatives into projects.Interact on a daily basis with architects, engineers and technicians to coordinate the structural design and drawings with the architectural, mechanical, electrical and civil disciplines.Perform quality reviews. Assist with management tasks to deliver projects on time and on budget.Assist with business development.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.Requires a minimum of 4 years’ experience in the design of building structures, with an emphasis on water/wastewater treatment plant facilities, subway stations and transit facilities.Must be able to analyze and design structural systems using STAAD-PRO, SAP2000 and similar structural analysis/design software.Validated software models and results through independent structural calculations, reducing design errors and improving confidence in deliverables.Strong working knowledge of MS Office applications including Word and Excel.Leadership skills in the areas of team building, collaboration and effective communications with colleagues, clients and contractors.Ability to manage and supervise junior engineers and CAD technicians.Effective time-management, written communications skills, analytical and interpersonal skills as well as good decision making, planning and organizational skills.Proven ability to meet required delivery dates for multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Licensed professional engineer (P.Eng.) registered with PEO.8+ years of related work experienceExperience in structural design of water/wastewater treatment projects, transit facilities, subway stations and renovations.Working knowledge of Metrolinx and TTC Design ManualWorking knowledge of REVIT, MicroStation, AutoCADGovernment of Canada Security Clearance
