Structural Bridge Engineer | Washington, D.C. or Tysons Corner, VA | Hybrid
VHB’s Structural Engineering team plays a critical role in improving mobility and connectivity through impactful infrastructure projects. Our work spans complex bridge and interchange designs, rehabilitations and inspections, pedestrian walkways, and transit stations—advancing transportation systems and enhancing quality of life for the communities we serve.
We are seeking a Structural Bridge Engineer to join our growing team in Washington, D.C. or Tysons Corner, VA. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated engineering professional to contribute to a variety of bridge and transportation-related structural projects. You'll work in a highly collaborative environment, utilizing state-of-the-art tools and developing digital models that support transformative infrastructure solutions across the region.

Responsibilities
Perform structural modeling, analysis, and design for bridges and other transportation infrastructure projectsPrepare detailed construction documents, including plans, specifications, estimates, and calculation packagesConduct quality reviews of engineering reports and construction documentsSupport structural inspections, evaluations, and load capacity ratingsReview fabrication drawings and perform construction plan reviewsAssist in the preparation of proposals, qualifications packages, and project scopingProvide project coordination support across disciplines and help manage deadlines and deliverablesCollaborate closely with engineers, designers, and project managers throughout all phases of a projectMentor junior staff and contribute to a collaborative and knowledge-sharing team cultureSkills & Abilities
Solid understanding of bridge design standards and structural engineering principlesProficient in at least some structural analysis/design tools such as Mathcad, STAAD Pro, AASHTOWare, LARSA 4D, MDX, SP Column, MerlinDASH, etc.Experience with model-based design and tools like:Bentley OpenBridge and OpenRoadsAutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, Infraworks, or InventorStrong critical thinking and problem-solving skillsDetail-oriented, organized, and effective in managing multiple tasksExcellent technical writing and verbal communication skillsComfortable working both independently and as part of a highly collaborative teamEnthusiastic about mentoring others and contributing to team growthExperience in project/task managementMinimum Qualifications
3–5+ years of experience in structural bridge and/or transportation designB.S. in Civil Engineering (Structural emphasis preferred)EIT certification required; PE license preferred or ability to obtain within 6 monthsThe base salary range for this position is $86,000 - $128,000 for the Washington, DC location. This offer is determined based on a number of job-related factors including internal comparators, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities and geographic location.
