This is a fully remote 3-6 month long project that can be done after hours or on the weekends. Must be willing to work 40 hours per week.
Overview:
This role involves interpreting CAD models for Orion spacecraft and performing FEA using NASTRAN, with a focus on vibration, transient, and multi-load case analysis. It also includes evaluating material behavior and preparing fracture control documentation.
Job description:
The Structural Analysis Engineer is responsible for interpreting engineering CAD drawings and models to establish material properties to be used in analysis by using CAD FEA tools (e.g., NASTRAN) to analyze multiple load cases, vibration, or transient analysis; and examines linear and nonlinear behavior of materials, joints, and geometry for metals and non-metals, and determines design stresses.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Interpret engineering CAD drawings and models to establish material properties to be used in analysis.
+ Uses CAD FEA (e.g., NASTRAN) tools to analyze multiple load cases, vibration, or transient analysis
+ Prepare a Fracture Control Summary document based on the analysis of the item
+ Examines linear and nonlinear behavior of materials, joints, and geometry for metals and non-metals and determines design stress.
+ Prepares free-body diagrams to depict load cases
+ Analyze fasteners for combined axial, shear and/or bending loads.
+ Calculate axial forces in fasteners due to thermal expansion and contraction.
+ Determine fasteners min and max preloads.
Min. Requirements
+ 5+ years of fracture analysis experience using NASTRAN or similar FEA software
+ Ability to work independently
+ Thermal analysis experience is an added bonus.
+ Ability to work remotely 40 hours per week for duration of the contract.
+ This position requires access to information or hardware subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR.
