What you'll do Viasat is seeking to hire a Strategy Principal, Corporate Strategy, who will play a critical role in developing, formulating and communicating the company’s strategy at a time of accelerating innovation and change in satellite communications and the broader space industry. We are seeking a problem solver with a background in the telecoms, media, and technology industry. This individual should be motivated, skilled at collaborating effectively, and proficient in addressing intricate business and technology challenges alongside various senior team members. Purpose: To work in collaboration with the Corporate Strategy Team, peers across the organization, and Viasat’s Executive team to develop, formulate and communicate Viasat’s corporate strategy. The ideal candidate will have significant strategy experience in either management consulting or corporate strategy roles. Applicants should have significant industry experience and key skills like problem-solving, market analysis, and communication. This individual will also need strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work optimally with peers across the org (Business Units, Central Functions) and the Executive Team. Intellectual curiosity is also needed in the dynamic areas of satellite and space technologies. The day-to-day As a senior member of the Corporate Strategy team, the Strategy Principal will be a key contributor to the following accountabilities: • Planning – deliver a long-term strategy planning process across the business segments, central and corporate functions. Provide clear linkage between strategy choices, value creation (financial performance) and execution. • Strategic analysis – drive strategic analysis, frame strategic choices for strategy formulation monitoring external environment, market trends and competitors. • Corporate strategy ideation and formulation – help drive key discussions on the evolution of the vision, aspirations, strategic growth areas. • Contribute to crafting a decision framework to evaluate key initiatives and aid in prioritization of resources. • Scenario Planning and Modelling – Define and model the various scenarios that Viasat should consider in its strategic plan which incorporates risks as well as upsides that may occur over the planning horizon. • Cross-Org Strategy Collaboration – Work with BUs and Functional teams to guide their strategy development to ensure it address key trends, competitive threats, market shifts, etc., and that they tie to the overarching corporate strategy. Share frameworks, tools and a structured approach to strategy formulation to help guide the development of strategy at all levels. • Strategy Linkage to other Functional areas – Work with finance to develop the annual and operating plan following the development of the strategy; work closely with Finance on the decision framework and assessment of initiatives to guide capital and resource allocation; Work closely with People & Culture (HR) to tie the strategy to the OKRs for the company, Business & Functional teams and the balanced scorecards that will be used to track progress. • Strategy communication – Develop effective communications on the Viasat Corporate Strategy to Viasat’s employees, work alongside the executive team to prepare strategy documents to the Board of Directors, and work with Investor Relations and the Analyst Community to ensure that we are proactively guiding the strategic narrative for Viasat with the external community • Work with executive team to review central initiatives quarterly/annually, ensuring progress and making adjustments. What you'll need • Experience of 10+ years in management consulting or a combination of management consulting and some experience in a corporate or business unit strategy role. • Proficient at solving complex problems with a strategic approach, experienced in leading content initiatives and partnerships. • High awareness of current trends, market conditions,, and landscape and cognizance of Viasat’s relative context. • Demonstrated ability to structure complex problems, conduct the required analysis, and drive to conclusions/recommendations • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to do financial models, market forecasts, scenario planning and modeling, etc. • Phenomenal teammate with the ability to build consensus, alignment, simplify, and communicate ideas and concepts to an audience of mixed strategic capability ("translation"). • Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills – ability to frame complex concepts into a consumable form for a wider audience. • Self-directed and comfortable working independently. • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in business, economy, finance or STEM field required. What will help you on the job • Deep understanding of telecom, media and technology industry and associated trends; satellite know-how is ideal, but not a prerequisite. Salary range $185,000.00 - $291,500.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $222,500.00- $333,500.00/ annually At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
