A Day in the LifeJoin Medtronic as the Strategic Sourcing Director-IT, where you will be a key member of Medtronic’s center-led Indirect Supply Management (ISM) team, leading a 10–12-member team managing and influencing ~$700M in annual IT spend across the Hardware, Software, Telecom, Cloud, Value-Added Resellers (VARs), and Data Center Infrastructure categories. In this global role, with the vast majority of spend concentrated in the Americas, you will partner with stakeholders across IT portfolios, business functions, and geographic regions to create value. Using your strong business acumen, you will choose the right supplier and the right engagement model and put in place contracts that will preserve and protect Medtronic’s interests.

As the Strategic Sourcing Director-IT, you will:
Provide inspirational leadership to the team of both early career and tenured resources in managing the IT Category, identify and nurture talent, and lead by example
Create value within ~$700M in non-Services IT spend, developing and implementing strategies that result in a sustainable competitive advantage
Bring the best-in-class analytical and communication skills
Achieve year-on-year value improvements for all aspects of quality, service, innovation, and cost
Perform RF(x) events to drive competitive pressure and ensure maximum value is realized, bringing strong business and commercial acumen to deals
Lead contract negotiations
Engage and influence multiple stakeholders (primarily senior leadership) to adopt and implement strategies developed by the IT Category team; Medtronic is a highly matrixed organization, and having the ability to influence and leverage the matrix is a key requirement
Work independently and build strategic relationships with key suppliers
Interact and partner with the Office of CIO, Legal, Information Security, Privacy, Quality, and other key stakeholder groups
Provide stakeholders with a balanced view of contract risk and liabilities
Build a multi-year (at least 2 years) pipeline to support planning processes
Assist in Supplier Stratification activities (e.g., Supplier Relationship Management)
Gather market intelligence and trends for relevant categories and associated sub-categories
Systematically gather internal and external benchmarks to support sourcing efforts
Recommend solutions to business problems and/or identify opportunities for improvement
Follow governance processes and purchasing controls systems to ensure compliance
Educate and train stakeholders on key indirect supply management initiatives and policies
Establish and support a work environment of continuous improvement
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in Technology Sourcing or IT Procurement, managing a portfolio of enterprise IT suppliers with 7+ years of managerial experience, or an advanced degree plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in Technology Sourcing or IT Procurement, managing a portfolio of enterprise IT suppliers with 7+ years of managerial experience
Global Category Management experience (e.g., strategy development and execution in accordance with strategic sourcing methodologies)
Understanding of underlying economics, pricing drivers, and typical contract terms of the different IT categories
Nice to Have
Experience working in a large multi-divisional corporation
Knowledge of working in FDA-regulated industries
Excellent written and verbal communication
Excellent judgment, problem-solving, and influencing skills

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan.The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
