Stormwater Engineer

 Freese and Nichols is seeking an experienced Stormwater Engineer in Charlotte NC, Raleigh NC, Winston Salem NC, or Atlanta GA. The Stormwater Engineer will lead stormwater study and design projects, often supporting our FEMA Production and Technical Services (PTS) contract.

 

   Responsible for leading, completing, and reviewing hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) analyses for a variety of projects including FEMA Risk MAP studies.  Perform independent studies and prepare reports of results and conclusions in a clear, concise manner.  Direct other engineers and technicians on assigned tasks and review and evaluate their results.  Present and deliver final reports to clients.Prepare and verify design calculations, design drawings, and specifications necessary for most economical method of construction.  Seal drawings and reports as required.Maintain and utilize working knowledge of accepted engineering design standards and practices in the execution of design work that will meet the client’s needs and conform to firm standards.Coordinate the work of drafting personnel, technicians, or other engineers on technical matters pertinent to project assignments, including FEMA Risk MAP studies.Work toward keeping tasks within schedule and budget to fit the needs of the project.Provide input and coordination with other departments and disciplines.Provide data, as required, for cost estimating, and secure preliminary equipment costs for reviews.Investigate new methods and implement new ideas and/or procedures that will benefit the firm and its clients.Serve as Project Manager for projects that primarily require work within own group but will also require coordination with other FNI groups and the client.

 

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering6+ years’ experience with stormwater study and design projectsProfessional Engineer Registration in North Carolina (or ability to become licensed within 1 year)Experience with a basic range of hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling and design software packages including geospatial packages like ArcGIS

Qualifications

Preferred

Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM)3+ years’ production and technical experience with FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP)
