Store Detective – B&Q, Preston

£13.30 per hour | 50 hours per week
Shifts: Week 1 (Mon–Fri), Week 2 (Tues–Sat)

Are you naturally observant, calm under pressure, and ready to play a vital role in keeping retail spaces safe? We're looking for a Store Detective to work across the B&Q store network in Preston, helping to deter theft, support investigations, and contribute to a safer shopping environment for all.

This is a unique opportunity to become part of a high-performing team supporting the UK's leading home improvement retailer. You'll work behind the scenes and on the shop floor, using your instincts and training to prevent loss and identify criminal behaviour before it escalates.

What You'll Be Doing

Actively observe and detect theft or suspicious behaviour, taking appropriate action including apprehension where needed.

Build strong working relationships with local police, crime partnerships, and internal teams to stay on top of crime trends.

Create local intelligence networks to disrupt organised retail crime.

Maintain accurate and timely incident reports, and attend court when required to give evidence.

Ensure facilities such as stationery and workspace areas are maintained to required standards.

Support audits and space utilisation projects to improve store efficiency.

Monitor CCTV and electronic tagging systems to enhance store security.

What We're Looking For

A calm, confident communicator who can quickly assess and respond to situations.

Previous customer-facing or security experience—store detective background is a major plus.

A valid SIA licence is essential.

Sharp observational skills and the ability to handle sensitive situations professionally.

Confident challenging individuals where necessary and making swift, informed decisions.

A proactive, motivated attitude—someone who takes pride in preventing crime and protecting others.

Familiarity with modern surveillance systems (CCTV, tagging, etc.) preferred.
