Job Summary:

As a Sterile Processing Aide, you will handle daily workflow tasks as a vital part of the Sterile Processing Team. By managing routine tasks, you help increase productivity and efficiency in the department.  

You will empty instrument and cart washers. This includes scanning tray tags in the instrument tracking system, placing trays in the Drying Cabinet, and moving trays to staging areas for assembly. You will also move carts to the staging area, empty container tacks, sort, and store containers for easy access. 

As an aide, you will deliver and pick up instruments and case carts from the Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum department and additional departments like the Breast Care Center and Interventional Radiology. 

ACCOUNTABILITIES 

Collects soiled supplies and equipment for processing and maintains an inventory of sterile and clean supplies and equipment in each department. Decontaminates reusable instruments and patient equipment by means of hand prewash and disinfectant and/or hand wash with mechanical wash. Inspects/tests, assembles, and/or wraps and sterilizes all patient care supplies and equipment.  Has an understanding of the principal function and application of all equipment used in or dispensed from the department; washer decontaminator, sterilizers (steam and Gas Plasma), instruments, traction, and all patient equipment.  Receives written and/or telephone orders for supplies. Fills request/requisitions by obtaining items from sterile processing or store stock and delivers to the requesting area. Monitors use of supply items and replenishes as necessary, rotates inventories, and notifies appropriate personnel of shortages for reorder. Monitors patient chargeable for accuracy by means of computer entry as credits or debits.  Assumes reasonability for conducting and interpreting all processing monitors, biological tests, and maintaining sterilization records.  Cleans storage shelves, automated equipment, and the like according to department policy.  Attends staff educational and development programs as required by regulatory agencies.  Maintains quality in job functions and participates in the department quality improvement operation. Performs all related duties as requested or required.

REQUIREMENTS 

Education: High School graduation or equivalent Skills: Must have excellent customer service skills, ability to prioritize tasks and relay those priorities to staff. Certification: Candidate completes certification in Sterile Processing within 2 years of hire. 

 

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS 

Years of Experience: 6 months experience in a sterile supply department. Operating room environment and/or knowledge of patient care supplies, equipment, and sterilization procedures.
