Job Description
As a Sterile Processing Technician, you will work under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, and other surgical staff to ensure the operating room is set up correctly for procedures. Your role includes preparing and transporting patients for surgery, adjusting lights and equipment, and getting instruments ready for specific surgeries. You will also manage the caseload, organize schedules, and ensure trays are prepped. This position may require working on an on-call basis to meet patient care and business needs. Teamwork is essential, and you may cross-train in other clinical areas as staffing and patient needs change.
ResponsibilitiesSet up the operating room for surgeries.Prepare and transport patients for surgical procedures.Adjust lights and equipment as required during surgery.Get instruments ready for specific surgical operations.Manage caseload and organize schedules effectively.Prepare trays for surgeries.Work on an on-call basis as needed to support patient care and business needs.Cross-train in other clinical areas as staffing and patient needs change.Essential SkillsProficiency in surgical instrumentation and sterile processing.Knowledge of sterilization techniques and operating room protocols.Experience in decontamination and instrumentation handling.Ability to operate autoclave machines.Must possess a BLS certification.LVN License required.Additional Skills & QualificationsHigh School Diploma or equivalent.At least one year of experience in an operating room setting or equivalent education or training.Work Environment
The position operates Monday through Friday, with shifts typically consisting of four 9-hour days. One day off is scheduled based on the weekly schedule, with rotation ensuring fairness in day assignments such as Mondays or Fridays off. If a specific day off is needed, arrangements can be made. Working hours are typically from 6:30 am to 4:00 or 4:30 pm, with a 30-minute lunch break. The caseload varies from 15 to 30 cases a day, depending on the day and the nature of the cases, with faster cases taking less time. Cases are pulled in advance for the next day or up to three days out, depending on the schedule.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $30.00/hr.
