Baystate Health is hiring a detail-oriented Sterile Processing Technician to join our high-performing team at Baystate Wing Hospital in Palmer, MA. In this crucial behind-the-scenes role, you’ll ensure every surgical procedure starts with the highest level of safety, cleanliness, and preparation.

What You’ll DoIn this vital role, you’ll be responsible for the cleaning, sterilization, and preparation of surgical instruments and equipment that directly impact patient outcomes. From decontamination to final inspection, your work ensures our surgical teams are ready for every case.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Decontaminate surgical tools and equipment following safety and infection control guidelines
Inspect, assemble, and package instrument kits for surgical procedures
Operate sterilizers including steam, ethylene oxide, and low-temperature gas plasma systems
Maintain accurate documentation of sterilization processes and quality checks
Monitor biological and chemical indicators to ensure compliance and safety
Work collaboratively with clinical teams and maintain organized, sterile workspaces
Perform routine inspections of sterile goods and maintain inventory
What You’ll Need to QualifyWe support technicians at all levels through a defined career ladder structure:
Level I:
High School Diploma or GED required
Prior experience in sterile processing or perioperative environment preferred
Level II:
High School Diploma or GED
1 year of sterile processing or surgical tech experience
Level III:
High School Diploma or GED
2+ years of sterile processing experience
Certified through CBSPD or HSPA
Level IV:
High School Diploma or GED
3–5 years sterile processing experience
Strong understanding of OR environment and instrumentation
Preferred: Surgical Technologist Level II/III background
Certification through CBSPD or HSPA must be obtained within 18 months of hire if not already certified
