Position OverviewUHS is hiring a Sterile Processing Educator to support Sterile Processing Department (SPD). This position plays a critical role in ensuring high standards of instrument processing, staff competency, regulatory compliance, and continuous education within the department.
The Sterile Processing Department Educator is accountable for coordinating education in Sterile Processing department. The role includes assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating education and training of the Central Service staff. Will assist in performing competencies as well as maintaining new staff on track to completion with onboarding of new and current employees.
This individual will also be accountable for ensuring professional development as well as coordinating the research and evaluation on new products and equipment and will be responsible for in-servicing staff on new products and equipment.
All to provide positive patient outcomes by meeting the needs of our patient care partners identified as physicians, endoscopy suites, surgical services and UHS affiliates.

Compensation Range:
$22.97 - $34.46 per hour, depending on experience

Essential Functions: Essential functions are those tasks, duties and responsibilities that are performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
+ Extensive knowledge in analyzing and interpreting manufacturer’s IFU for surgical instrumentation, endoscopes, and medical equipment.
+ Ability to Operate semi-automatic to automatic sterilizing equipment; mechanical decontamination equipment and other related equipment, e.g., ultra-sonic washers, rinsers/dryers according to manufacturer’s IFU.
+ Maintains cleanliness of sterilizers, washers and other department equipment as scheduled.
+ Learn and maintain knowledge on quality and performance testing on all sterilizers, washers and HLD equipment through experience and ongoing education
+ Performs audits scheduled and meets SPD metric deadlines
+ Coordinates the departmental orientation of new hires. Plans, implements and promotes the education and training of staff members to ensure professional development. Evaluates reviews and reports the staff’s ability to provide clean, sterile and accurate instrument sets.
+ Creates and provides educational programs for the Sterile Processing staff. Including but not limited to staff workshops, in-services, lesson plans, quizzes, videos, on-line education.
+ Assist in maintaining SPD staff C.E credits and staff in renewing credentials
+ Maintains a list of staffs certificates, renewal dates, and educational dates
+ Provides quality assurance programs and the support necessary for staff in the field of sterile processing.
+ Ensures that the department meets all the regulations, standards and guidelines consistent with AORN, AAMI, The Joint Commission, CMS, CDC, OSHA, and FDA requirements as well as the hospital’s policies and procedures.
+ Completes required continuous training and education, including computer-related requirements.
+ Maintains and updates professional knowledge by actively participating in professional seminars and organizations.
+ This practice is acceptable as long as the parameters of this temporary assignment are clearly communicated to you.
+ Develops education plans of correction and follow through to completion.
+ Collaborates with clinical and surgical teams to ensure alignment of SPD education with OR expectations.
+ Supports readiness for internal and external audits through education and process review.

Education/Experience
Minimum Requirements :
+ 2 years of working in a Sterile Processing Department/Role
+ High School Diploma or equivalent
License/Certification
Minimum Required:
+ Hold an active Sterile Processing Certificate - CRCST or CBSPD
Preferred:
+ Additional Certificates in sterile processing (.i.e., )
