Summary
Job Summary
The Education Specialist leads all activities which contribute to improve professional competence and growth of team members within Sterile Processing. Responsible for promoting quality patient care by assessing, developing, implementing creative and interactive learning opportunities that adhere to organizational standards. In conjunction with management, maintains expert practice within the body of the team to ensure staff development, continuous consultation and research to support updated and efficient standards of care and practices.
The primary responsibilities will involve a matrix of core principles:
Staff orientation
SPD Trainee internship development
Competency maintenance and development
Policy maintenance & development
Quality assessment & improvement
Regulatory standards review and staff education
Staff development and ongoing education
Education Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED
Must be certified through CBSPD or IAHCSMM as a Sterile Processing Tech upon hire and must maintain certification according to that governing body Central Service Leadership certificacation (CHL) through IAHCSMM, must be received within 2 years of hire.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Minimal 5 years’ experience
A balance of knowledge in all areas within a Sterile Processing setting to include: Decontamination, Instrument assembly, Sterilization, Case Cart preparation
In depth knowledge of IAHCSMM and AAMI recommendation and practices
Excellent communication skills via verbal and written
Minimum 2 years' experience with an instrument tracking software, Censitrac preferred
Minimum of 1 year customer service required, 2 years preferred
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Ability to occasional work a flexible shift to accommodate critical training and staff competency completion.
Ability to prioritize, critical think and demonstrate time management skills
