**Job Summary**
Since 2016, the STEM Community Alliance Program ( STEMCAP ) has provided more than 1,000 educational workshops and hands-on conservation projects at Youth-In-Custody facilities across northern Utah. STEMCAP offers a variety of programming types including guest lectures led by scientists and artists, multi-day science workshop series, art enrichment classes, a computer programming series, horticulture projects, and field trips. This work occurs across five youth centers.
STEMCAP partners with experts in Science, the Arts, and the Humanities to increase awareness of and interest in various career and academic pathways for incarcerated youth. STEMCAP enhances educational self-discovery and provides creative outlets for youth participants. The STEMCAP Program Assistant will travel to and join programming at youth centers. They will support partnerships across and beyond University of Utah’s campus. With the team, they will develop educational programming, advise material needs, and support data collection.
This position is currently supported by a multi-year grant provided by the Utah State Board of Education. Formerly incarcerated and justice-impacted persons are strongly encouraged to apply.
**Responsibilities**
1. Attend, facilitate, and document youth center presentations/events
2. Schedule meetings with presenters
3. Correspond with youth center teachers and administrators to ensure schedules, workshop plans and supplies lists are cleared
4. Work with presenters to create age and setting-appropriate hands-on activities for STEMCAP workshops
5. Assist in efforts to recruit presenters
6. Assist in organizing and maintaining data, presentations, and other STEMCAP files
7. Co-manage the STEMCAP calendar and develop semester programming schedules
8. Facilitate transportation for lecturers to STEMCAP workshops in Salt Lake, Davis, and Utah County
9. Work with external evaluators to provide surveys to presenters and teachers.
10. Attend presenter orientation meetings and provide input and support as presenters craft their workshop for STEMCAP audiences
11. Maintain database of all presentation data
**Minimum Qualifications**
Associate’s degree in a related field, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience), plus two years of related experience required; ability to use logic and reasoning to prioritize tasks; computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet software, and/or database software preferred; demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field may be preferred.
