Position Description

 

Under direction, researches, designs, and constructs stage scenery and special effects sound and lighting; maintains and operates theatre lighting, sound, projection, and other equipment; and coordinates theatre usage by on- and off-campus groups.

 

Responsibilities

 

• Confers with and advises theatre faculty on technical requirements for theatre productions and classes; researches, designs, and supervises the construction of scenery and special effects sound and lighting.

• Administers technical theatre budget, estimates costs, and makes purchases.

• Performs routine maintenance and minor repair on all theatre equipment and facilities.

• Directs the work of student employees and technical theatre students.

• Coordinates theatre scheduling and usage with on- and off-campus groups.

 

Qualifications

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

 

• Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities specific to this position. An example of this would be completion of a B.A. in Technical Theatre.

• Demonstrated evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds in a community college environment.

 

Ability to: 

 

• Estimate costs and keep accurate records; ability to organize, schedule, and control workflow.

• Effectively direct the work of hourly classified students and student employees; to communicate effectively and to establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.

 

Knowledge of: 

 

• Methods and problems of stage and set design and construction; knowledge of lighting equipment, lighting controls, sound systems, projection equipment, and related electrical and electronic equipment, and their operation, maintenance, and repair; knowledge of aesthetic considerations related to technical theatre services.

• General operating and safety practices related to auditoriums, stages, and related sets and equipment.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS 

A. This classification requires that the employee be available to work flexible hours.

B. Strenuous physical activity including heavy lifting and climbing ladders and scaffolding is required.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT 

This is a part-time (19 hours per week), 12-month, classified bargaining unit position. Starting date: as soon as possible. Range 22 of the CSEA Salary Schedule, with a starting salary of Step A, $5,736.

 

Being able and ready to work in-person with Chaffey students, Chaffey employees, or other members of the Chaffey community/Chaffey partners/Chaffey contractors is an essential function of this job.
