Position Purpose:
The Staff Software Engineer is responsible for setting the technical strategy and leading the architecture for The Home Depot's Gemini Enterprise Platform on Google Cloud (GCP). This role owns the platform's data freshness, performance, security, and cost-efficiency at enterprise scale while enabling governed AI agent workflows. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be part of a dynamic team with engineers of all experience levels who help each other build and grow technical and leadership skills while creating, deploying, and supporting this critical production platform.
In addition, you will lead product and tool selection, platform configuration, and define the standards for security (VPCSC, IAM, RAG hardening), system resilience (SLOs/SLIs), performance tuning, and production monitoring. Staff Software Engineers will author foundational architectural diagrams, governance policies (e.g., agent lifecycle, action approval), and patterns for data ingestion. As a core technical leader, you will manage the technical relationship with key vendors, including Google, to align roadmaps and influence platform direction, and you are expected to build and grow the skillsets of other engineers.

Minimum Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:
8+ years of relevant work experience in platform engineering, platform reliability, or cloud architecture.Deep, expert-level knowledge of Google Cloud (GCP) platform services, especially GKE (at enterprise scale), IAM, VPC, and secure data services.Extensive experience designing and managing large-scale cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), especially Terraform (advanced modules, state management).Proven experience implementing and configuring GenAI data pipelines in Python or Go, integrating structured and unstructured data into vector stores, supporting RAG workflows, and ensuring model-to-data compliance through ACL and metadata alignment (e.g., Gemini ADK, Pinecone, or Vertex AI).Deep expertise in platform reliability and observability; experience setting and governing org-level service level objectives (SLOs/SLIs), and using tools like Cloud Logging/Monitoring and SIEM.Proven experience designing and implementing zero-trust security architectures, including VPC Service Controls (VPCSC), least-privilege IAM, and data-centric security (e.g., PII redaction, prompt-injection defense).Experience in designing systems for High Availability, Disaster Recovery, Performance (e.g., latency, data freshness), and cost governance.Experience defining technical strategy and authoring roadmaps, RFCs, and architectural decision documents.Experience leading multi-team incident response and root cause analysis (RCA) for complex distributed systems.Experience with modern CI/CD practices and change governance (e.g., blue/green, canaries) and expert-level skill with version control systems.
