**Scope of Position**
Innovate and design novel high precision optical connectivity concepts, adapters and related fiber optic interconnection solutions.
Collaborate with project leaders, process development engineers, manufacturing engineers and product line management to develop high volume fiber optics product concepts to be manufactured across the globe.
+ Create detailed opto-mechanical designs of optical connectors, adapters and related assemblies
+ Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances to 3D models and 2D drawings
+ Perform tolerance analysis
+ Identify design risks with failure mode analysis
+ Analyze current designs and new concepts with sensitivity analysis and tolerance allocation
+ Proficiently use 3D CAD software
+ Design components for high volume injection molding and metal machining processes
**Day-to-Day Responsibilities**
+ Coordinate design efforts with process and manufacturing engineers
+ Coordinate product evaluations with internal test labs
+ Instruct technicians how to perform required experiments
+ Provide prototypes for and participate in voice-of-customer meetings
+ Design components for high volume precision injection molding and metal machining processes
+ Provide reliable solutions using analytical design and advanced problem-solving techniques
+ Effectively communicate designs and performance data
+ Meet project milestones and product cost targets
+ Up to 15% domestic travel
**Experiences/Education - Required**
+ Minimum M.S. or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline required
+ Minimum 3 years' industry experience in designing high precision components with sub-micrometer accuracy or related field
+ Demonstrated ability to solve challenging technical problems by developing creative solutions with an understanding of the underlying engineering principles
+ Familiarity of injection molding and extrusion and polymer selection per application
+ Understanding of precision manufacturing and measurement techniques
+ Use of 3D CAD software
**Experiences/Education - Desired**
+ Knowledge of fabrication technologies such as precision machining and 3D printing
+ Experience with high precision alignment stages, power meters, tunable lasers, spectrum analyzers
+ Programming skills for automated data acquisition and process controls using software such as LabVIEW and MATLAB
+ Experience with adhesive technology
+ Working knowledge of PTC Creo
**This position supports immigration sponsorship.**
The range for this position is $119,542.00 - $164,370.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
