Staff Product Line Manager, Adventure Gear

Role Summary This role is a blend of consumer advocacy, product management, and robust program management. You'll define user needs and product requirements, while rigorously establishing timelines, managing budgets, and driving critical cross-functional alignment and accountability. You'll make decisive project-level decisions, gathering data to present clear tradeoffs, and relentlessly drive the team toward optimal solutions. Proactively identify and escalate any unresolved issues to leadership for swift alignment. You'll be expertly coordinating the design, development, and execution of multiple Adventure Gear programs, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery. This role demands high initiative, independent judgment, and strong indirect leadership, requiring you to effectively coordinate engineers, industrial designers, suppliers, and other cross-functional partners to deliver creative solutions within aggressive timelines, holding all parties accountable. Responsibilities Ruthlessly own the product brief, driving all tradeoff decisions in strict accordance with the plan and holding teams accountable. Develop comprehensive product plans, including detailed timing, resource, development, and budget plans. Engage cross-functional teams to diligently track and ensure timely delivery of all technical program requirements. Proactively track and manage day-to-day program progress, issues, and requirements, ensuring transparent visibility across the organization regarding status, key milestones, and potential roadblocks. Work closely with Product Line Managers and Commercial Leads to gather insights from various inputs (research, data, feedback, trends) to establish product and user requirements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define product and user experience, considering accessibility and ergonomics. Provide deep context on problems, giving designers, engineers, and suppliers space and constraints to define and prototype solutions. Partner with Commercial Leads to align on business cases, cost targets, margin, feature management, and sales strategies. Listen to, understand, and prioritize user, partner, and stakeholder needs to facilitate seamless cross-functional collaboration and decisive tradeoff discussions that keep the program on track. Regularly report program status with clear, concise communication of open issues, risks, and roadblocks, providing actionable insights and proposed solutions. Actively manage and mitigate risks before they escalate, implementing contingency plans and driving urgent resolution. Qualifications B.S. in engineering, program or product management or a related field. Minimum 5 years experience in a Product Management or similar role with a strong program management focus (or 3 years with advanced degree). Experience developing consumer goods, outdoor products, automotive accessories, or other hardgoods and their associated product development processes is a must. Experience partnering with product development teams to bring design intent to production specifications, demonstrating a clear ability to drive execution against defined timelines. Proven experience effectively aligning schedules, resources, and priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, consistently delivering on commitments. Adept at distilling insights, design, and engineering concepts/data into actionable tradeoff information for cross-functional decision-making to drive rapid progress and meet deadlines. Proficient knowledge of hardgoods product and engineering best practices; manufacturing methodologies, validation, and quality control is a plus. Experience with the full product development lifecycle (problem identification, ideation, prototyping, engineering design, transfer to manufacturing, sustaining), with a demonstrated ability to manage and accelerate each phase. Passionately motivated to take ideas from development to a verified product, with a relentless drive for on-time delivery. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate expectations, drive consensus, and hold individuals accountable. Hands-on approach: proactively identifies and fills in gaps where needed, taking ownership of tasks to ensure program momentum. Ability to travel to manufacturer locations as needed (less than 10% of time). Pay Disclosure Salary Range for California Based Applicants: $154,000-192,500 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
