The roleThe Food Systems Alliance at HelloFresh is focused on building and scaling global systems that support the entire food journey, from assortment and ingredient development to supply chain management technology. This includes key domains such as master data management, strategic procurement, applied science (covering areas like menu planning, personalization, forecasting, and operations research), supplier reliability, and inventory planning. With end-to-end ownership of critical supply chain functions, the Alliance enables efficient, consistent, and innovative solutions. This integrated approach supports faster software development, enhanced collaboration, and the delivery of scalable systems across global markets.
As a Staff Engineer in our Food Systems Alliance, you will be responsible for defining, securing, and implementing technical solutions for business problems. You will look after speeding up development, decision-making, and problem-solving. You will work with our neighboring teams to ensure that our efforts aim to achieve a clearer architecture and boundaries between tech teams to support autonomy. You will communicate directly with our business stakeholders and multiple tech teams supporting local markets. You will report to the Director of Engineering in the Procurement tribe. This role does not include people management responsibilities.
What you’ll do Take responsibility for end-to-end software design and development processes across your domain. Cooperate with other engineers to promote best practices in software architecture, design, development, delivery and deployment, and operations (DevOps Practices, Pair Programming, TDD, streaming, pub/sub, etc.) Drive the strategic adoption of modern technologies by mentoring teams to use them effectively. Be actively involved in large, strategic tech initiatives, such as distributed data mesh, streaming data, microservice architectures, code refactoring best practices, API definition, CI/CD implementation and more. Collaborate closely with our leadership in Tech, Product, Data and Business to improve our process, methodologies, communication flows, etc. Act as an ambassador for the HelloTech brand and a key partner to our Talent Acquisition team in hiring efforts. What you’ll bring 8+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering Deep expertise in system architecture and API/microservices design Strong coding and architectural proficiency in one or more core languages: Kotlin, Java, Golang, Python Practical knowledge of widely adopted technologies and tools such as Kafka, AWS, Kubernetes, and SQL, along with a firm grasp of industry best practices A strong advocate for engineering excellence, including CI/CD, TDD, BDD, DDD, and effective use of design patterns Proven ability to drive improvements across tech stacks, development methodologies, and team collaboration practices A passion for mentorship and knowledge sharing, helping others grow through guidance and structured sessions Familiarity with DevOps principles and experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud What we offer Health - You’re covered from your first day with private health insurance.
