We are partnering with a rapidly growing nonprofit organization in Hartford seeking a Staff Accountant to support accounts payable, grants administration, and general accounting operations. This is a high-visibility role within a collaborative finance team, ideal for someone who enjoys variety, accountability, and mission-driven work.

What You Will Be Doing

• Ensure timely and accurate processing of accounts payable transactions

• Research and resolve AP issues including adjustments, voids, and credit memos

• Compile and reconcile corporate credit card transactions

• Prepare monthly entries and reports as part of the close process

• Serve as backup for purchasing orders, payment processing, and budget tracking

• Process donor-related payments and designated fund distributions

• Manage vendor records, prepare year-end 1099s, and resolve outstanding checks

• Support audit requests, confirmations, and compliance documentation

• Assist with grant administration including monitoring budgets and expenditures

• Ensure grant spending aligns with award terms and compliance requirements

• Prepare grant-related financial reports and closeout documentation

• Maintain accurate grant records and supporting documentation

• Support the finance team with reporting, audits, and special initiatives

What We Are Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business preferred

• Two to five years of accounting experience

• Prior exposure to grants accounting or nonprofit finance strongly preferred

• Experience with accounts payable and general ledger support

• Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail

• Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment

• High degree of ethics and ability to maintain confidentiality

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools

Work Environment

• Hybrid schedule based in Hartford, CT

• Initial training period includes more frequent on-site presence

• Post-training schedule typically two to three days in office, performance dependent

Pay and Benefits
