Staff Accountant
Job Title: Staff AccountantJob Description We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant/Accounting Associate to support critical day-to-day accounting operations, with a primary focus on high-volume bank account reconciliations. This role is essential to maintaining accurate financial records and supporting timely month-end close activities. While the position emphasizes foundational accounting and bookkeeping responsibilities, there is opportunity for growth into more complex accounting tasks over time. This is a temp-to-hire opportunity and is well-suited for an early-career accounting professional who is comfortable working with large transaction volumes and complex account activity. Responsibilities + Perform monthly bank account reconciliations for accounts with high transaction volume and complex activity. + Investigate and resolve reconciling items, discrepancies, and variances in a timely manner. + Record and review routine journal entries related to cash activity and general ledger accounts. + Support month-end close processes, including account analysis and documentation. + Maintain accurate, organized financial records and reconciliation support schedules. + Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure cash activity is properly recorded and understood. + Assist with additional accounting or bookkeeping tasks as assigned, with potential exposure to more advanced responsibilities over time. Essential Skills + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience). + 1–3 years of experience in an accounting, bookkeeping, or staff accountant role. + Hands-on experience with bank reconciliations, preferably involving high-volume transactions. + Strong attention to detail and ability to work through complex account activity. + Proficiency with Excel and general accounting systems. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience supporting month-end close in a multi-account environment. + Exposure to more advanced accounting functions beyond basic bookkeeping. + Interest in professional growth and taking on increased responsibility over time. Work Environment The position is based on-site from 8am to 5pm. The work environment offers the opportunity to join a strong Accounting Team with potential for internal growth at a prestigious higher education institution in Hartford, CT. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hartford, CT. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $34.00/hr.
