Staff Accountant
Description We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join our team in Burlington, Vermont. In this role, you will be responsible for processing AP, managing key financial processes, ensuring accuracy in accounting operations, and supporting both internal and external audits. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate strong organizational skills while maintaining effective communication with vendors and internal stakeholders. Responsibilities: • Process invoices and payments accurately while ensuring correct general ledger account coding and proper application of sales and use tax. • Manage vendor setup and documentation, including W-9 forms and Certificates of Insurance. • Oversee check runs for customer refunds and energy efficiency rebates. • Assist in month-end and year-end financial closing tasks, including the preparation of 1099 and 1042S forms. • Prepare recurring and ad hoc journal entries and related schedules to support financial reporting. • Reconcile various balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis and investigate discrepancies in subsidiary ledger activity. • Monitor daily cash activity, reconcile transactions, and post bank debits and credits to clearing accounts. • Conduct bank statement reconciliations, particularly for the company’s main operating account. • Create and manage capital work orders within the financial system, ensuring proper assignment of settlement rules. • Collaborate across accounting functions for cross-training and departmental coverage, performing additional duties as needed. Requirements • Proven experience in accounts payable processes and invoice management. • Proficiency in data entry and financial systems, with a focus on accuracy and efficiency. • Familiarity with SAP or similar enterprise resource planning systems. • Strong understanding of general ledger coding and tax applications. • Ability to reconcile complex financial accounts and investigate discrepancies. • Knowledge of preparing regulatory forms such as 1099 and 1042S. • Excellent organizational and communication skills for interacting with vendors and internal teams. • Experience in handling bank statement reconciliations and monitoring clearing accounts.
