Staff Accountant
Job Description Our client is seeking a highly analytical and detailed Junior Staff Accountant to join our finance team. The candidate will take ownership in a crucial role maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of our firm's financial records. This position performs a full spectrum of accounting duties, from transactional processing in accounts payable and receivable to account reconciliations and general ledger support. Our client is a mid-size intellectual property law firm located in Reston, Virginia. Skills and Requirements As our Junior Staff Accountant, your core responsibilities will include: Prepare the monthly reconciliations for firm operating, trust, and credit card accounts. Perform full-cycle accounts payable and receivable functions. Assist with the firms collections efforts on past due client accounts. Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger to support the monthly close process. Assist with financial reporting and auditing, as needed. Prepare and execute banking transactions, including wires and deposits, as needed. Assist in the setup and maintenance of new vendors and clients in the accounting system including gathering required documentation. Provide comprehensive support to the finance director, accounting department, and legal staff. Cross-training with other accounting team members to ensure coverage, and additional tasks as needed. What You'll Bring: A bachelors degree in accounting/finance and at least 2 years of accounting experience, preferably in a legal or professional services setting. Previous accounting experience in an IP law firm is ideal. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; you're comfortable working with complex workbooks.
