Description
We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team in Bethesda, Maryland. This position offers a flexible hybrid schedule, requiring at least one day per week in the office. The ideal candidate will manage key financial processes, including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger reconciliations, and cash activity postings. This role requires someone with strong organizational skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
Responsibilities:
• Record daily cash activity by posting accurate journal entries into the accounting system and reconciling transactions with bank records.
• Perform reconciliations of general ledger accounts while maintaining detailed accounting schedules using Excel.
• Apply cash receipts correctly in both the accounting system and the association management system to ensure accurate accounts receivable balances.
• Manage and reconcile cash receipt and credit card batches across various platforms, coordinating closely with the Membership Department.
• Deposit checks promptly and ensure accurate application of payments, including checks, wires, and other transactions, to the appropriate invoices.
• Create invoices, monitor payment statuses, and follow up on outstanding balances to facilitate timely collections.
• Investigate and resolve issues related to credit card chargebacks and misapplied payments.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to address inquiries regarding accounts receivable, donation activity, and payment statuses.
• Assist in gathering transaction documentation to support the annual audit process.
• Serve as a backup for accounts payable functions, including processing payables and preparing 1099 forms.
Requirements
• Associate’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
• Minimum of one year of experience in accounting, with a focus on accounts receivable and accounts payable; association experience is preferred.
• Proficiency in Excel and familiarity with accounting software systems, such as Intacct.
• Experience working with customer relationship management systems, especially association management systems, is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Knowledge of bank reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger maintenance.
• Effective communication skills to work collaboratively across departments and with external stakeholders.
• Familiarity with tools like Bill.com and experience with month-end close processes.
