The pay range is $71,000.00 - $128,000.00

A role with Business Partnerships & Negotiations (BP&N) means supporting Merchandising in developing the best possible deals for Target through strategic partnerships and vendor negotiations. Here, you’ll work with buyers on contract terms and vendor organizations to set strategies that get the maximum value for Target. Your analytics expertise and strategic thinking will be used to position Target and its vendors for the most productive and successful partnerships.

The Senior Vendor Income Expert (Sr VIE) within Vendor Income Operations (VI Ops) is responsible for developing and implementing Target’s vendor income (VI) processes and strategies across the enterprise. Vendor income is a critical component of margin results, profitability, and promotional effectiveness. As a Sr VIE, you will devise, influence, and execute the best-in-class VI strategy for the business(s) you support, as well as create tailored processes for strategic vendors. Cross-functional partnership is critical in this role; you are a key business consultant and collaborator with Merchandising, BP&N, Finance, and external Vendors. Your strong partnership will drive accountability to vendor income strategies and the execution of those strategies. You will develop a deep understanding of and influence merchant business strategies, objectives, and outcomes. You will synthesize best practices with deep business context, financial analytics, and negotiation expertise to drive vendor and business specific solutions. With the authority to approve and customize vendor income agreements on behalf of Target, you will be accountable for financial results and best operational practices. In this role, you will report to the Sr Manager, VI Ops.

About the Role:

• Drive projects to analyze and improve upon vendor income opportunities, utilizing analytical expertise and acumen. 

• Apply business acumen, data and insight to proactively identify VI gaps and risks across Total Target and devise and implement strategies to address those opportunities

• Employ business knowledge and creativity to build and drive innovative solutions to more efficiently and accurately collect Vendor Income

• Partner cross-functionally to co-create customized solutions for and support Target’s largest and most strategic vendors

• Communicate and document actions and results to influence and gain leader buy-in, while ensuring all stakeholders are properly informed

• Partner with our global team members and help train and educate them to better resolve routine VI inquiries and execute operational tasks

• Stand up and adapt VI routines in business categories, as priorities and business needs change

• Be a champion of compliance and ethics in VI collection across Target

Tasks include, but aren’t limited to:

• Maintain partnerships with merchants

• Maintain working relationships with largest National Brand Vendors

• Train and provide guidance to TII team

• Audit and Analyze Vendor Income contracts and earnings

• Prepare recaps for cross-functional audience

• Support BP&N team members with annual negotiations

About you:
• Four-year degree or equivalent experience

• 2-5 years of relevant experience, specifically in merchandising, analytics, or finance

• Expert-level analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills

• Demonstrated experience in identifying opportunities and driving strategic initiatives

• Ability to implement and communicate complex processes across teams and levels
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maximize relationships

• Comfort with ambiguity, influencing stakeholders, and leading without authority

• Experience with change management, vendor relationships, and negotiations

• Travel <25%

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
