Sr. UX Designer, Data Center Design Engineering
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

The AWS Data Center Design Engineering - BIM & AI Technologies team is seeking a talented and passionate Senior UX Designer to join our mission to revolutionize the Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Ownership (AECO) industry through innovative Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Generative AI technologies. This user experience role will have significant impact on our business as you contribute to the strategy and design direction for AI-native product experiences that serve architects, engineers, construction managers, and facility operators working to design, build, and operate Amazon's global data center facilities.

Throughout the strategy, design, and development lifecycle, you will work collaboratively with your design team, alongside product managers, engineers, applied scientists, and domain experts, building future-forward experiences that leverage agentic AI capabilities. Your role is to identify opportunities across experiences and resolve gaps in our product strategy, creating a highly connected ecosystem where AI agents, desktop tools, and cloud-based platforms work together seamlessly to accelerate facility design.

You understand that AECO professionals maintain exceptionally high trust bars; they require AI systems that support rather than replace professional engineering judgment within the context of regulatory compliance and design accuracy. You approach AI not as a feature, but as a system that must be intentionally designed, tested, and governed.

You have an "anything is possible" mindset when faced with seemingly hard problems and thrive on uncovering deep customer insights. You love being part of a highly collaborative and high-energy team that isn't afraid to swing for the fences. You're proud of your work, your skills and expertise, but flexible and open to cross-functional team input, as you want to be part of something impactful.

Key job responsibilities
• Lead design initiatives for revolutionary GenAI applications that accelerate data center facility design workflows, with particular focus on designing, constraining, and validating AI agent behavior as a core UX artifact for Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Ownership (AECO) applications

• Craft and validate long-term design strategies through customer research, prototyping, and proposal documents that advocate for the needs of architects, engineers, construction managers, and facility operators working with Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies

• Design interconnected product experiences across a suite of desktop and cloud products, ensuring seamless integration between first-party software, third-party platforms, and AI agents that work together to support diverse AECO use cases while maintaining human-in-the-loop workflows

• Define AI agent personas and behavioral contracts that articulate each agent's role, responsibilities, boundaries, and escalation behavior, with particular attention to design accuracy, code compliance requirements, and appropriate confidence levels when working with 2D/3D geometries and structured datasets representing digital twins of physical facilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams of product managers, engineers, applied scientists, and domain experts to explore, innovate, and create solutions that help customers accelerate facility design while ensuring AI-assisted experiences remain transparent, trustworthy, and grounded in real engineering needs, designing for multiple personas from design engineers managing complex BIM workflows to field engineers and facility operators

• Leverage existing design systems while innovating with domain-specific patterns and technical visualizations, accelerating design delivery through rapid prototyping and AI-assisted design tools that demonstrate complex data center design workflows and multi-tool orchestration scenarios

• Ensure AI agents are designed to assist users by providing design guidance, code-compliant recommendations, and data synthesis, rather than taking ownership of critical engineering or construction decisions that require professional judgment and regulatory compliance
